BI Pricing FAQ

Simplified Licensing

Starting in Q3 2014, SAP has simplified the BI licensing model. This FAQ will explain the changes.

WHY IS SAP CHANGING ITS BI PRODUCT PACKAGING?

SAP is focused on simplicity both of our software itself, and in the experience of purchasing and servicing the
software. In our old pricing model, some aspects were not as simple as it could be. In response to customer,
partner, and internal feedback we have listened and have implemented a new pricing model for BI that:
Aligns software licensing rules with how the software is used.
Removes complex user-on-user licensing where 2 licenses per user were sometimes required for a use
case.
Includes a runtime license of HANA restricted to use as a platform for Lumira Server.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE NEW LICENSE MODEL?
1. Both Lumira Server and the HANA Runtime for Lumira Server is included in the BI Suite model.
Everything you need to run Lumira Server is included in the new BI Suite license model.
2. No additional named user licenses are required to author content. This means that Webi users can use
all the functionality of Webi without an additional license for authoring rights. The same is true for
Analysis Office and Analysis OLAP.
3. Mobile is included in both the BI Suite and component (a-la-carte) model. Mobile viewing is no longer an
extra every user is now mobile enabled.

WHAT IS THE HANA RUNTIME FOR LUMIRA SERVER?

This is a restricted use HANA license. It is only to be used to run Lumira Server and can be used as repository
for storing the published data and storyboards from Lumira Desktop. It cannot be used as the metadata
repository for the BI Platform CMS database. It cannot be used for a data mart or data warehouse. It cannot be
used to model data using HANA studio. It does not include any data integration or replication tools like Data
Integrator or SLT.

WHICH BI LICENSES INCLUDE HANA RUNTIME FOR LUMIRA SERVER?

HANA runtime for Lumira Server is included in the BI Suite, BI Suite Analytics Editions and the BI Sutie for SAP
Applications. It is not included with the BI component model and Edge BI licenses.

WHAT BI LICENSES DOES THE NEW PRICING APPLY TO?

The new pricing applies to the BI Component model, BI Suite, BI Suite Analytics Edition and the BI Suite for SAP
Applications.

I OWN EDGE BI. DOES THIS APPLY TO ME?

Yes. The Edge BI license has also been simplified. Now all metrics both NUL and Concurrent Session (CSBL)
include authoring rights.
DOES THIS AFFECT ME?
There are no retroactive changes to existing customers who purchased prior to Q3 2014. Existing customers can
choose to convert to the new Q3 2014 license model (called the BI Suite model), or customers can opt to stay
with their existing license and license more-of-the-same software.

DO I NEED TO UPGRADE MY SOFTWARE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS?

No. SAPs license model is unrelated to the version of the software.
CAN I STAY ON MY CURRENT LICENSE MODEL AND UPGRADE MY SOFTWARE?
Yes. If you are happy with your current license model you can continue to use it indefinitely. You can download
the latest software on SAP Service Marketplace. However you wont be able to benefit from new functionality
that is included in the latest BI Suite license model.
WILL CONVERTING MY LICENSE COST MONEY?
The answer depends on the software you currently own. The cost to convert is determined by comparing the
value of your conversion certificate (which reflects the value of software you currently own) with the new
software value.
HOW DO I CONVERT MY LICENSE?
Please contact your SAP account executive or partner to initiate the conversion process.
AFTER CONVERSION DO I NEED TO INSTALL ANY SOFTWARE?
No. Conversion is a contractual process. After conversion you will receive access to any new software you now
have rights to, but you do not have to install anything to complete the conversion.
CAN I STILL PICK AND CHOOSE THE PRODUCTS I WANT TO LICENSE?
Yes. The new license model allows you to purchase all products using the BI Suite license or individual
products using the component model license.
WHAT METRICS ARE AVAILABLE?
We continue to support both named user and concurrent session metric.
WHAT PRODUCTS ARE AVAILABLE WITH EACH METRIC?
For technical and operational reasons, not all metrics support all products. This table shows which components
support which metrics.

MY CURRENT LICENSE USES THE CPU METRIC. CAN I GET THE NEW MODEL WITH THE CPU METRIC?
No. The concurrent session metric is simpler and more flexible. Its simpler because there is no need for a
hardware sizing exercise in the middle of a transaction. Its more flexible because IT can use as much (or as
little) hardware as needed without triggering a licensing event. This means that additional servers can be
deployed at peak times without updating contracts.
