Weekly news from February 13th - February 17th

From the Office:

Our Box Tops for Education drive continues! Help us earn free money for Highland! Please send all Box Tops in with
your student. Remember, to please keep clipping for the spring drive too.

We will have a Valentine Card Exchange on Tuesday afternoon. If you child would like to participate, please see the
back of the newsletter for a class list.

From the Classroom:


We are in need of replenishing school supplies. Please talk to your student to see if they need more pencils,
dry-erase markers, or scissors. We use these supplies daily and are running very low in the classroom. Thank you
for your support!!!:)

Math Students will study measurement and measurement conversion.


Science - Students will continue studying ecosystems by researching various biomes and observing the growth of pants
in a terrarium.
Reading This week we will continue with the same standards from last week. : 5.RN.2.1: Quote accurately from a text
when drawing inferences from a text.; 5.RN.2.2 Determine two or more ideas of a text. Explain how the main ideas are
supported by key details.; 5.RN.3.2: Compare and contrast the organizational structure of events, ideas, concepts, or
information in two or more text.. We will finish comparing the 3 non-fiction stories.Harvesting Hope, A
Filmmaker for Justice, and Westward Bound. All of these stories are in our textbooks.
Social Studies - Students will finish reviewing the Constitution (Ch 10). On Monday, we will review the 3 branches of
government and discuss the roles they play in our national government. We will have an assessment on Tuesday.
Look for your students book and notebook to study over the weekend!!!
Grammar -5.W.3.1 Write persuasive compositions in a variety of forms. We will be sharing different samples of
persuasive topics and begin the brainstorming process for our next paper. This week we will take it step by step
through each step of the writing process.
Spelling - 20 word test on friday. Please see list above. We will also have a review quiz on simple, compound, and
complex sentences on Friday.
