and status for various phases (Preliminaries, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Test &
Commissioning, and Close-Out).
Level 3 Level 3 is a more detailed schedule showing the breakdown of the Level 2 Schedule. This

The duration of each task in this level should be less than 20 days.
Level 5 Level 5 is a much more detailed project programme showing the complete activities /
tasks to be performed including subcontractors schedule.
For the Dubai Creekside 18 project, the client requested for a Level 4 project programme schedule.
Usually, the client / consultant look for the critical path and the duration of each activity to see whether it is
feasible enough to achieve the target project completion.
I also did some refresher as advised by my mentor. So I studied the critical path method again. Critical path
method is considered as the longest path duration where there are zero floats in each activity. The steps in
preparing the critical path method are the following:
Forward Pass and Backward Pass method is used to identify the critical path in a sequence of activities.
Forward Pass determines the Early Start and Early Finish Dates of each activity while the Backward Pass
calculates the Late Start and Late Finish. This is done with using the Precedence Network Diagram (PDM).
There are several ways to reduce the duration of the critical path. It can be done either by fast tracking or
crash duration. Fast tracking is used to identify which activities can be achieved parallel to each other. On
the other hand, Crash Duration is used to shorten the time completion per each activity by providing
additional resources. This type of technique can lead to resource constraints in the project schedule.
Did your mentor guide you in line with your areas of focus during your placement this week?
Yes, my mentors guided me in my areas of focus for this week. Although they are a very busy in
their responsibilities, they were still able to teach me and gave me documents to read and study.
Could anything have been done to improve your experience during this placement?
It would be better if they will allot some time for teaching me the procedures in creating a tender
programme. I know that currently, they are very busy with their works and responsibilities.
