LAT EXCEPTIONS TO API 614 STANDARDS FOR LUBE OIL SYSTEMS

(1999 Edition)
Chapters 1 & 2
LAT Lube Oil Systems are designed and built to our standards which offer an integrity to or greater than API 614. LAT's
compact machine design requires that some of the details of construction and testing differ from the requirements of
API 614.
* Items marked with an asterisk () can be met at extra cost. Paragraphs in API 614 marked with a () are not included.

DESCRIPTION

LAT STANDARD

Chapter 1
1.1

Chapter 2

This standard covers the minimum

requirements for lubrication systems

LAT design does not require an oil-type shaft-sealing system.

Therefore, all requirements for the above type sealing system are
not applicable.

*1.1.10

*1.1.10

To minimize the potential for generation of

static electricity

LAT machines recycle lube oil after the filters, and due to LAT
compact package layout and a smaller machine, the 30-second
residence time may not be met.

*1.1.17

Component parts that retain oil under

pressureshall be made of steel

Some component parts such as the temperature regulating valve

and pumps may not be made of steel, but of aluminum, cast iron
and/or bronze.

*1.1.18

Valved vents, drains

*1.1.19

The purchaser will specify double block and Double block and bleed valves are provided, per purchaser
bleed valves
request.

1.2.5
*1.3.1.1

Drains and vents are plugged, (non-Hazardous gas) or flanged

(hazardous Gas). LAT does not normally provide double block and
bleed.

LAT package does not require grouting.

all baseplates

Reservoir shall be separate from equipment Due to compact design, reservoir (when atmospheric) may be in
baseplate
the equipment baseplate.

drains

1.3.5

Features and appendages...

Reservoir drain is 1-1/2'' valved and capped.

Both pressurized and atmospheric reservoirs deviate from this
paragraph, and other minor provisions of API 614, as follows:

1.3.5.1.5

A blind flange vent...

Pressurized reservoirs and atmospheric reservoirs in hazardous

environment are vented to an appropriate source.

1.3.5.1.5

Filter breather cap...

Filter breather cap is provided for atmospheric reservoirs and nonThe lube oil heater is supplied with an integral thermostat and may
not be removable.

*1.3.1.3

Materials, reservoirs shall be fabricated

from type 300 series stainless steel

Carbon steel material is provided.

*1.3.14

Grounding

Grounding clips or pads are not provided.

*1.4.3

When

An accumulator system instead of emergency pump provides an

*1.4.5

unless otherwise specified, the main oil

pump shall be driven by steam turbine

The main oil pump is electric motor driven.
