Children born in 2013 are eligible to start Junior Kindergarten this coming September. You can begin this process by pre-registering online at www.ucdsb.on.ca, or calling
Arklan School directly at 257-8113. Arklans parent information night is scheduled for
Wednesday, Feb. 8th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. This is the paperwork night for parents.
The Open House for students will be in the spring.

ATTENTION GRADE 6S!
Carleton Place Intermediate School is hosting an

Open House Night for grade 6 students who will
be attending next school year. The event is
scheduled for Wednesday, February 8th from
6:30 to 8:00 PM, starting in the CPHS cafeteria.
Students and parents will have an opportunity
to tour the school, find out more about programs, and ask questions.

10:00 AM to 1:55 PM in the gymnasium. The students will be rotating

through a variety of activity stations.
Parents are invited to stop by to see
their children engaged in math activities in an atmosphere that promotes
co-operation, learning, fun & celebration!
MATHLETICS!
MATHLETES is a full day hands on

MATH EVENT for grades 2 through 6,
which sets the tone for mathematical
success and builds bonds between
students in an atmosphere that promotes co-operation, fun and learning. Arklan is hosting a MATHLETES
event on Friday, January 20th from
.our winter weather is fickle, but its cold out there!!! Please make
sure your children are equipped for the cold weather. We try to
spend time outside every day, so dress warmly! Dont forget hats,
mitts, boots and snow-pants every day.

school buses are cancelled due to inclement weather? Check the Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario website at
www.steo.ca! Theres a great feature on
the STEO website to relay delays or cancellations. The Delay or Cancellation feature
can be found on the websites homepage
at www.steo.ca. Updates are posted by
6:15 AM.

Please contact us if your child is not a bus
student, and is staying home due to the
inclement weather. Theres no need to
call the school if your child will be absent
because their bus is cancelled.

Its Arklan School Day at the Canadians home game on Friday,

February 3rd. Our school has an opportunity to win $500 just by
attending the game and bringing tons of positive energy. Participating school all have the opportunity of attending their own
home game. The school with the best representation wins $500.
More information will be posted on our Facebook page. Information will also be sent home with students later this month.
During the week of February 13-17, Arklan students will be participating in dance classes taught by the
progressive team from Momentum Moves Canada. Their lessons are designed to take students through
the creative process one move at a time, in a fun and supportive environment. The choreography and
music are age appropriate so students can enjoy success while being challenged.
We are in the process of planning our annual Winter Activity

Day, scheduled for Wednesday, February 22nd. Students will
be choosing from a number of fun activities.

Build Ours Kids Success!

BOKS is a FREE program that
gives kids a body and brain
boost that will set them up for
a day of learning. The Arklan
BOKS program will start back
up every Monday and Friday
morning from 8:15 to 9:00
beginning January 30th until
March 10th. Permission slips
will be sent home within the
next few days for those who
have returned the interest
forms. For more information

all have a duty to ensure the safety of our students. Safe Arrival procedures are a legislated
requirement for elementary students in Ontario.
If your child is absent, or you know of a future
absence, it is your responsibility to notify the
school. Here are some options for contacting the
school:

Send a message via Facebook. Its completely
private.only office staff see these messages.
If we are unable to contact you through the
phone numbers you provide, we will attempt to
phone your emergency contacts. If we are unsuccessful in reaching any contact, the board protocol is to report unknown absences to the OPP.
The Upper Canada District School Board recognizes

concussions as a serious injury which requires appropriate follow-up measures to reduce risk of potential
additional injury. Concussion awareness, prevention,
identification and management are a priority for the
Board.
