Lesson Objectives
During this lesson, students and the teacher will orally review the circulatory system using
the students notes and the teachers PowerPoint from the previous day. The students will
then watch a video from puzzle. Com which will give another animated explanation of the
circulatory system. The students will then create a circulatory system using the classroom
and themselves. Students will then create a diagram of the circulatory system using various
colors of yarn to represent different parts.
What will students be able to do at the conclusion of this lesson? Make sure that your
objective(s) are measurable.
TSWBAT: Identify all parts of the circulatory system
TSWBAT: State the functions of the parts of the circulatory system
How will I vary these objectives for students who do not understand the material?
How will I vary these objectives for students who have already mastered the concept?
How will I vary these objectives for students who are presently learning English?
For students who do not understand the concept, I have a video and an activity which will
include all students for reiteration of the concept.
For students who have already mastered the concept I will ensure that they take a major
role in the creation of class circulatory system. These students will be asked the most
questions which will allow their classmates to hear what they have learned and for them to
pick up on this information.
For students who are currently learning English, there are several depictions of the
circulatory system via PowerPoint and video to help them grasp the concept.
Why is it important for the students to learn this content?
Statement of Purpose
What materials and supplies are needed to help your students achieve the stated
objectives? What will the teacher need? What will the students need? What other
resources are needed? Will you use resource speakers?
Science Journal
Science Workbooks
Hot Seat Questions
Pictures
Graphic Organizer
Body Outline
Dry-Erase Marker
Anticipatory Set
What will you do to motivate the students and get their attention? What is the hook that
will serve as a focus for the lessons activities?
Pre-assessment
Teacher Modeling or
Demonstration
Guided Practice
The teacher will assemble students into a group around the classroom. Several students
will have different body parts and different parts of the circulatory system to wear around
their necks to represent these parts. There will be red paper balls which represent oxygen
rich blood that will flow throughout the circulatory system. There will also be blue paper
balls which represent oxygen poor blood that will flow through the circulatory system. As
students pass the blood throughout the circulatory system made of students, the teacher
will then explain the processes of the circulatory system. After the second time the blood is
passed around the circulatory system, the teacher will have the students to explain the
process to ensure that they understand the concept.
What questions will you ask to determine if students understand so far? What techniques
or strategies will be used to determine if students understand so far?
To see what students know, I will ask the questions such as what is the purpose of an
artery? What is in the blood that arteries are carrying? What is the purpose of a vein? What
is in the blood that veins are carrying? Where is a capillary located and what is its purpose
in the circulatory system?
What will students do by themselves to show that they have internalized the knowledge?
Independent Practice
Closure
Students will create a diagram using red yarn to represent arteries and blue yarn to
represent veins in the body. Students will be instructed to glue the arteries and veins to the
body diagram creating a visual of how arteries and veins look and travel throughout the
body.
How will I conclude the lesson and relate it to future experiences? How will you wrap up the
lesson to reinforce concepts taught during the lesson?
For closure, the teacher will instruct students to form a circle around the classroom for a
ball toss review. I will ask a question and toss the class ball to random students for answers
to reinforce the lesson for today.
What will students do to demonstrate what they have learned?
Assessment

Attached
What can students do at home or in the classroom to apply the knowledge or skills? How
could you use your colleagues or community agencies to improve student performance?
Extension Activities
For extension I have previously taught students how to check their pulse, students will be
instructed to check their pulse after various activities they perform at home. Things such as
playing outside, playing their video games, and after they wake up.
How will you use technology to assist students with learning the concepts? What technology will you
use to enhance the delivery and comprehension of your content?
Technology
Technology will be used in this lesson via laptop and smartboard which will display the video for the
explanation of the circulatory system. It will also be used via lumens camera which will show students
an example of how their body diagram should look.
How will you connect this lesson with other content areas across the curriculum?
The Arts: Students will design their body diagrams in any way they want. After getting the information
on the diagram, they will be allowed to decorate their diagram.
Health: The circulatory system is a very important system in our bodies. Students need to know that
the circulatory system along with the respiratory system is one of the most susceptible systems to
disease and infection, so they must do all they can to keep it healthy. They can keep it healthy by not
smoking or drinking and trying to stay away from unclean air.
Physical Education: Students should know that their circulatory system will change due to their
physical activity. More exercise will raise pulse and heart rates. Students should know that more
exercise will give them healthier and more clean bodies.
Strengths
The strengths of this lesson were the various forms of the circulatory system that the students were
able to see. There was a PowerPoint, video, a class creation of the system, and an individual student
creation of the circulatory system.
Describe the weaknesses of your instructional techniques, strategies and classroom management.
Describe the weaknesses of student engagement.
Weaknesses
Suggestions for
Improvement
A weakness I observed from this lesson was that for the class creation of the circulatory system, I could
have given more clear directions. I found myself having to repeat some things because students were
confused
What would you change when teaching this lesson again?
If I were to do this lesson again, I would have the directions for students already typed and laid out for
them.
