Om. This immortal and celebrated prayer that glorifies The

sakrah pravidvaan pradisaschatastrah |

Mother Nature is authored by the Creator. It contemplates

tamaevam vidvaan amrita iha bhavati

The Absolute. It is the peerless and certain means to

naanyah panthaa ayanaaya vidyatae ||

prosperity. Its knowledge is disseminated to all by Indra .

1 Sahasra seersham devam

O! Lord, Multi-faceted Thou art, with the impartial eye towards

viswaaksham viswa sambhuvam |

the whole universe. Thou art the eternal mirth. Thou art the

viswam Naaraayanham devam

omnipresent Lord Naaraayana . Imperishable, emancipating

aksharam param padam ||

and supreme is Thy state. I adore Thee with utmost reverence.

2 Viswatah paramaannityam

Thou art beyond the creation; perpetually embracing all of it.

viswam Naaraayanhagm Harim |

Naarayana , Thou art the benefactor of all - being all pervasive.

viswa mae vedam purusha

Thou art to be known as the essence in all beings and as

sta dvisva mupajeevati ||

the sustainer of all life. I worship Thee with respect.

3 Patim viswasyaatmaeswarangm

O! the universal Master, O! the catholic Lord,

saasvatangm Sivam Achyutam |

the invariable and immutable Bliss, Thou art;

Naaraayanham mahaajnaeyam

O! Naarayana , Thou art the utmost knowable -the all saturating

viswaatmaanam paraayanham ||

supreme Self of all creation, I venerate Thee with admiration.


O! Almighty (Naaraayana ), Thou art beyond all wisdom;

4 Naaraayanha paro jyotir

aatmaa Naaraayanhah parah |

the supreme Self in all conceivable, the infinite

Naaraayanha param Brahma

and the paramount principle of life (the Brahman ).

tatvam Naaraayanhah parah |

Thou art, that very basis of consciousness; the

Naaraayanha paro dhyaata

quintessence of all meditation and the meditating.

dhyaanam Naaraayanhah parah ||

I revere Thee with adoration.

5 Yachchakinchid jagat sarvam

In the infinite universe, apparently this world is, but a tiny

drusyatae sruyatae api vaa |

fragment. Both within and without, and every where, it is

antar bahischa tat sarvam

pervaded and manifested by Thee, O! the Knowledge Absolute.

vyaapya Naaraayanha sthitah |

My beatification is unto thee..

6 Anantam ayvayam kavingm

Boundless, immutable and omniscient Thou art; as vast as the

samudraentam viswa sambhuvam |

ocean. Enlighten us from depths of ignorance, bringing well

Padma kosa prateekaasam

being to all; I cherish Thee. Thou art the Heart of all -nestled,

hridayan cha api(y)-adhomukham ||

akin to the treasure house of a lotus, yet to blossom.

7 Adho nistaa vitasyaanthae

Thou art, the vitality that is central to our existence, that is

naabhyaam uparitisthati |

all concealed and yet, ever revealed through its effulgence,

jwaalamaala-akulam bhaati

gleaming with multifarious purposes, supporting all

viswasyaa ayatanam mahat ||

subsistence. I reflect upon Thee.

8 Santatang silaabhi stu

Always, precious like a diamond, akin to a fully bloomed lotus

lambatyaakosa sannibham |

flower, the vibrancy of vitality is experienced. In the zenith of

tasyaantae sushirang sookshmam

this, is the epitome of life, most minutely incorporated.

9 Tasya madhyae mahaan-agnir

Thou art, perceived as the glorious incandescence with

viswasrchir viswato mukhah |

manifold and universal visages (facets). Thou art, the most

soagrabhug vibhajannisthan

versatile and intense segregator of all life support, without

aaharamajarah kavih |

senescence or decay. Ever ascending, also descending and

tiryag-oordhwam adhassayeer

across too is Thy disposition. My admiration to Thee.

asmaya-stasya santataa ||
10 Santaapayati swam deham

Thou art the vital metabolic process spread all over from

aapaada tala mastakah |

the head to toe, energizing every bit of the insentient body.

tasya madhyae vahni sikhaa

Manifesting as growth and development, Thou art, verily the

anhiyordhvaa vyavasthitah ||

integral part of the anabolism too. I hold Thee in high esteem.

11 Neela toyada madhyasthaat

Akin to the blinding light of the thunderbolt from amidst

vidyullaekhaeva bhaaswaraa |

the darkest clouds in the horizon; resembling the yellow hue of

neevaara sooka vattanvee

phosphorescence at the base of a quality grain of paddy; Thy

peetaa bhaaswaty-anhoopama ||

radiance is stupendous as well as infinitesimal. I exalt Thee.

12 Tassyasikhaayaa madhyae

In the core of that brilliance is seated Thou art, the supreme

paramaatmaa vyavasthitah |

Self, termed as Paramaatma, thus conceptualized as the

sa Brahmaa sa Sivah sa Hari sa(e)Indrah

minutest within, the Absolute, the immutable & the formless;

so aksharam paramasswaraat ||

idolized as the Brahma, Siva, Hari & Indra etc. . I adore Thee.

13 Yoapaam pushapam veda, pushpa-

He, who comprehends that water is the basis of prosperity,

vaan, prajaavaan, pasumaan bhavati |

is blessed with fortune, progeny and riches (abundant cattle).

Chandramaa va apaam pushpam,

The Moon indeed, is the prosperity (flower is a metaphor for

pushapavaan parajaavaan pasumaan

prosperity) springing from water. He, who understands this, is

bhavathi || Ya yevam veda.

blessed with all fortune, progeny and all riches.

14 Yoapaam aayatanam veda,

Water performs the role of the promoter ( Aayatanam ) as

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

well as that of the promoted (Aayatanavaan ). The Fire, indeed

agnirvaa apaam aayatanam

is promoted by water and yet is also the promoter of water.

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

Likewise, water is both the promoter of and is promoted by

yoagnaer aayatanam veda

the fire. The basic constituents (pancha-bhootas, etc.,) of life

are very precious resources and have inter-dependent two-way

relationship with each other (as stated above). This is the crux

of Nature. This Knowledge is the imperative Wisdom. One

15 Yoapaam aayatanam veda,

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

Water is the promoter as well as the promoted principle.

vaayurvaa apaam aayatanam

The Air (Oxygen) indeed is promoted by water and is also

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

the promoter of water. Likewise is water for the air.

yo vaayor aayatanam veda

These are very precious resources and have inter-dependent

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

two-way relationship with each other. This is the basis of the

aapovy vaayor aayatanam

Nature. This Knowledge is the fundamental Wisdom. One

aayatanavaan bhavathi ||

must understand this and affirm to conserve them.

16 Yoapaam aayatanam veda,

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

Water is the promoter as well as the promoted principle.

aapovai tapannapaamaayatam

The Heat from the Sun indeed is promoted by water and is

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

also is the promoter of water. Same is water for the Sun.

yo amushya tapata aayatanam veda

These are very precious resources and have inter-dependent

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

two-way relationship with each other. This is the axiom of the

aapova amushya tapata aayatanam

Nature. This Doctrine is the cardinal Wisdom. One must

aayatanavaan bhavathi ||

understand this and swear to preserve them.

17 Yoapaam aayatanam veda,

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

Water is the promoter as well as the promoted principle.

Chandramaa va apaam aayatanam,

The Moon indeed is promoted by water and is also

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

the promoter of water. Likewise is water for the Moon.

yaschandramasa aayatanam veda

These are very precious resources and have inter-dependent

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

two-way relationship with each other. This is the nucleus of the

aapovai chandramasa aayatanam

Nature. This Erudition is the paramount Wisdom. One

aayatanavaan bhavathi ||

must comprehend this and vouch to economize them.

18 Yoapaam aayatanam veda,

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

Water is the promoter as well as the promoted principle.

nakshatraanhi vaa apaam aayatanam

The Stars indeed are promoted by water and are also

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

the promoter of water. Likewise is water for the Stars.

yo nakshatranhaamayatanam veda

These are very precious resources and have inter-dependent

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

two-way relationship with each other. This is the crux of the

aapovai nakshatranhaamaayatanam

Nature. This Science is the essential Wisdom. One

aayatanavaan bhavathi ||

must realize this and assert to protect them.

19 Yoapaam aayatanam veda,

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

Water is the promoter as well as the promoted principle.

parjanyo vaa apaam aayatanam

The Clouds (Rain) indeed is promoted by water and is also

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

the promoter of water. Likewise is water for the Rain.

yah parjyanyasyaayatanam veda

These are very precious resources and have inter-dependent

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

two-way relationship with each other. This is the principle of the

aapovai parjyanyasyaatanam

Nature. This vital Knowledge is the fundamental Wisdom. One

aayatanavaan bhavathi ||

must absorb this and testify to conserve them.

Water is the promoter as well as the promoted principle.

samvatsaro vaa apaam aayatanam

The Year (Time) indeed is promoted by water and is also

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

the promoter of water. Likewise is water for the Time.

yats samvatsarasyaayatanam veda

These are very precious resources and have inter-dependent

aayatanavaan bhavathi |

two-way relationship with each other. This is the basis of the

aapovai samvatsarasyaayatanam

Nature. This Knowledge is the most important Wisdom. One

aayatanavaan bhavathi ||

must understand this and promise to waste them not.

21 Yoaapsu naavam pratisthi

This entire world, both sentient and the insentient, is conceived

taam veda, pratyaeva tisthati ||


22 Kim tad Vishnorbalam aahuhu,

as a giant Ship, floating in the immensity of all pervasive water.


The Vishnu is verily, the one and only one Almighty sustaining

kaa deeptihi, kim paraayanham |

both this world here & the one here after (heavens). But exactly,

yaeko yaddaraya devah,

What is the description of the immense power of the Vishnu ?

raetasee rodasee ubhae ||

What will be his splendor ? How to conceptualize His state ?

23 Vaatad Vishnorbalam aahuhu,

The eternal life principle, the Air is His supreme power. His

aksharaad deeptihi ruchyatae |

immutable and imperishable nature is His splendor. His omni-

tripadaad dharayad devah,

presence in both the microcosm and macrocosm is unique.

yad Vishnor yaekam uttamam ||

His abode is the supreme, evolved state of the Bliss Absolute.

24 Raajaadhi raajaaya prasahya saahinae,

O! Your Majesty, Thou art the emperor of the emperors!

namovayam vai sravanaaya kurmahae |

Thou art the patient listener of all our ambitious calls. Thou art

samae kaamaan kaamakaamaaya mahyam

the fulfiller of all our greedy desires. Thy lordship presides over

kamaeswaro vai sravanho dadaatu |

all our longings. Thou art the heavenly treasurer. Thy charity

kubaeraaya vai sravanhaaya,

and mercy is this world of Thyne. My humble adoration to Thee.

mahaa raajaaya namah ||

O! the Great Monarch, time and again, my obeisance to Thee.

25 Om tadBrahma, Om tadVaayu,

Thou art symbolized by the Om , the primeval sound, which

Om tadAatma, Om tatSatyam,

in turn is symbolic of the Brahma , the Air, the Soul, the Truth,

Om tatSarvam, Om tatpurom namah ||

the totality and all that is bygone. I venerate Thee with trust.

26 Antatscharati bhootaeshu,

Thou art the integral part of all beings as well as the profound

guhaayaam viswa moortyshu, twam

and vast exterior expanses everywhere. O! Master, Thou art,

yajna stwam vashatkaara stwam,

the dedicated effort, the rain and prosperity, the ruler, the

Indrastwangm, Rudrastwam, Vishnustwam,

exterminator, the all pervaded, the creator & the lord of people.

Brahma twam prajaapatihi ||


27 Tvam tadaapa aapojyoteer rasoamrutam

Brahma bhoor-bhuva(h)ssuvarom ||
28 Eesaana(h)ssarwa vidyaanaam

Thou art the essence and prosperity manifesting as water,


the divine nectar, the elixir of life - causing life on all planets.
Thou art the quintessence of all Science. Thou art the Lord of

Eeswara(h)ssarwa bhootaanaam |

of the beings, the virtuous, the Creator and His abode. In Thee,

Brahmaadhipatir brahmanhodhipatir

ever are the Brahma and the Siva. Thou art the real Bliss.

Brahmaa Sivo mae astu sadaa Sivom ||


29 TadVishno paramam padangn,

sadaa pasyanti soorayah |

The spiritually evolved behold, Thee and Thy Supreme abode,


with immaculate comprehension and perfect Insight.

diveeva chakshur aatatam ||


30 Tadvipraaso vipanvavo jaagrudaam sah

samindatae Vishnoryatparamam padam ||

Thy Supreme abode is attainable only by those who are


virtuous, unfettered and spiritually awake.

31 Rrutam satyam param Brahma

Thou art, with enticing disposition, the Reality and Truth,

purusham Krishna pingalham |

the Supreme, the Brahman, the Purusha (the life within).

Oordhwaraetam viroopaaksham

Universal is Thy form, spread all over in all directions.

viswaroopaaya vai namo namah ||

My most sincere obeisance to Thee.

32 Naaraayanhaaya vidmahae

O! Naarayana , Let our intellect be ever inspired in the pursuit

vaasudevaaya dheemahi |

of conservation of the Natures vital principles to achieve

tanno Vishnuhu prachodayaat ||

prosperity for one and all.

33 Aakaasatpatitam toyam

Water, by its very nature flows down hill into the ocean. It

yatha gachchati saagaram |

transforms into the cloud by its adaptation into vapour state.

sarva deva namaskaarah

This ensures perfect recycling of this most precious resource

Kesavam prati gachchati ||

of life. Worship in any form must necessarily be its veneration.
