IndiGo is an Indian Low-cost airline headquartered at Gurgaon, India. It is the largest airline in India
in terms of passengers flown with market share of 36.5% as of September 2015. [2] The airline offers
more than 671 daily flights connecting to 39 destinations including 5 international destinations with
its primary hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi.[3][4] It presently operates a fleet of 101
aircraft belonging to the Airbus A320 family
IndiGo strongly adheres to a low-cost model, buying only one type of aircraft and keeping
operational costs as low as possible along with an emphasis on punctuality. IndiGo added a new
plane every six weeks and sometimes even faster. In December 2011, the DGCA highlighted
problems resulting from the expansion could impact safety
Being a low-cost carrier, none of IndiGo's flights have business class or first class sections. It offers
only economy class seating. To keep fares low, IndiGo does not provide complimentary meals in any
of its flights, though it does have a buy-on board in-flight meal programme. [39] No in-flight
entertainment is available, but the airline provides an in-flight catalogue Hello 6E which gives
information about various duty-free products which can be bought on board.
IndiGo offers premium services, where the passengers, at a higher fare, can avail additional benefits
like a pre-assigned seat and meals on board.[40] It also offers a service called IndiGo Corporate
Programme for corporate travellers.[41] IndiGo offers a boarding ramp for people in a wheelchair for
boarding the plane.[
Indigo has continuously built around this image through its tongue-in-cheek
advertisements on television and print media.
Unlike manual systems used by other airlines, IndiGo planes are equipped with a digital
link system for for transmission of short, simple messages between aircraft and ground
stations via radio or satellite called Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting
System (ACARS). Before every IndiGo flight departs an automatic message is triggered
from the aircraft to its operations control centre - and immediately the same departure
time gets recorded in the software. Similarly, the moment the flight lands an automatic
message is triggered from aircraft to control centre. Hence, the on-time performance is
diligently monitored for every flight in real time.

features such as queue busters at most airports, where if you are carrying only cabin luggage,
you need not stand in a check-in queue and these queue busters would print boarding cards
from hand-held machines quickly."
IndiGo Airlines allows its passengers to have a stress free journey by having a customer-focused
approach to its baggage policy. Passengers traveling on any domestic IndiGo airline are allowed to
carry upto 15kg of check-in luggage. A flat fee of Rs. 250 is charged in excess of any excess
baggage. If the luggage being carried is more than 5 kgs then a flat rate of Rs. 500 is charged.
IndiGo allows its customers to carry musical instruments or any such oversized items at a flat rate of
Rs. 1000 per item as long as they weigh below 12 kgs. Flights originating from Jammu and Srinagar
do not allow any cabin luggage. Regular flights in other sectors allow a hand luggage that can be
carried in-flight without any problems. Check-in luggage must adhere to an overall dimension of
158cms (length 55 cm + width 35 cm + height 25 cm).

.IndiGo maintains high aircraft utilization rates by keeping a low turnaround time between
flights. It operates a point-to-point route network with no code-sharing with other airlines,
helping turnaround time.
According to Airbus, the new A320neo aircraft are expected to deliver up to 15% fuel savings
initially and up to 20% fuel savings by 2020 compared to the current generation A320 aircraft
without sharklets (winglets), which will further reduce fuel consumption as these aircraft enter
the fleet from the end of 2015
aircraft in the air for a longer period of time and save up on airport
charges.
o
. IndiGo operates a point-to-point route network with no
interlining or code-sharing with other airlines for passenger traffic,
which helps reduce turnaround time.. But it saves the company from
sharing the inefficiencies of other airlines, especially delayed flights.
o
Full yet spacious: Optimal use of space (150 seats to
the 190 that a full-fare airline carries) ensures that the airlines are
running full practically 90% of the time.
. The strategy is to ensure that the aircraft don't stay grounded for too long because they
make money only when they are in air. That is why it has signed up "power by hour"
agreements with vendors under which it pays for every hour the aircraft flies; in return, the
vendors provide full spares and replacements whenever they are required. .
.
Fuel Costs Fuels for Indian airlines accounts for about 45%
of total operating costs due to high domestic fuel taxes and excise
duty.
o
Software: IndiGos aircraft try to save fuel by using
software to optimize flight planning for minimum fuel burning routes
and altitudes and also by making use of latest fuel saving
technology.
o
Load reduction: Fuel burning is also reduced by not
providing not carrying heavy cutlery or equipment, which fits into
their no frills model not serving hot meals on board.
o
Engine optimization: IndiGo was also among the first
airlines to have the aircraft taxi to the terminal with one engine,
shutting down the second engine to save fuel.

abiding respect for the fundamentals while indulging the cool quotient.
