Where s= linear displacement (m for SI unit or ft for imperial unit)

v= linear velocity (ms-1 for SI unit or fts-1 for imperial unit)
a= linear acceleration (ms-2 for SI unit or fts-2 for imperial unit)
= angular displacement (rad)
=angular velocity (rads-1)
o=initial angular velocity (rads-1)
= angular acceleration (rad-2)
t= time taken (sec)
Note: 1 revolution = 2 radian = 180 and
Since 1 rad/s = (2/60 or /30) rev/min
2N
in rad/s
where N is rotational speed in rev/min or rpm.
60
Example 1: (a) Express 6 rev in radians. (b) How many revolutions are equivalent to 10 rad? (c) How many
revolutions are equivalent to /2 rad? (d) Express 8 in radian. (e) Express 2.5 rad in degree.
Example 2: The shaft of a motor rotates at 1800 rev/min. Through how many radians does it turn in 18 s?
Example 3: The bob of a pendulum 90 cm long swings through a 15 cm arc as shown below. Find the angle
, in radians and in degrees, through which it swings.

Example 4: A belt passes over a wheel of radius 25 cm as shown below. If a point on the belt has a speed of
5.0 m/s. How fast is the wheel turning?

Example 5: A wheel of 40 cm radius rotates on a stationary axle. It is uniformly speeded up from rest to a
speed of 900 rpm in a time of 20s. Find (a) the constant angular acceleration of the wheel and (b) the
tangential acceleration of a point on its rim.
Example 6: An engine requires 5 s to go from its idling speed of 600 rev/min to 1200 rev/min. (a) What is its
angular acceleration? (b) How many revolutions does it make in this period?
Example 7: A pulley of 5.0 cm radius, on a motor, is turning at 30 rev/s and slows down uniformly to 20
rev/s in 2.0s. Calculate (a) the angular acceleration of the motor, (b) the number of revolutions it makes in
this time, and (c) the length of belt it winds in this time.
Example 8: A car has wheels of radius 30 cm. It starts from rest and accelerates uniformly to a speed of 15
m/s in a time of 8.0 s. Find the angular acceleration of its wheels and the number of rotations one wheel
makes in this time.
