Application for Studying CIVIL ENGINEERING FOR RISK MITIGATION

To whom it may concern:
In addition to all my documents provided, I would like to take this great opportunity to write a motivation letter to
clarify the main reason that drives me to study in CIVIL ENGINEERING FOR RISK MITIGATION.
My name is Muhammad Imran Sharif, born in Khushab, Pakistan, and currently living in Pakistan. Since my early
years, the dilemma of my future university studies was very important to me. Therefore, after graduation from
University of Engineering and Technology Lahore in Building and Architectural Engineering, I acquired a chance in
teaching as a Lecturer in a private university in Lahore. I served there for more than 2 years. My experience there
was very good but in my assessment, my knowledge to do this job was not up to satisfactory level, neither
theoretically nor practically.
After that when I had an opportunity to change something I made a very drastic step and took an opportunity to
join a construction firm that provided me the chance to live and work in Saudi Arabia as planning and risk
engineer. I have had to adapt myself to the new culture and language as fast as possible, and my previous
knowledge of English helped me a lot. I found myself a quick learner. Furthermore, the challenge motivated me
to continue improving my knowledge of foreign languages and English particularly.
I had worked there in Manazel Construction Company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for two years. My responsibilities
were to communicate with the construction team, the consultants and the client in order to coordinate them and
to let them be more and more aware of the solutions to the problems that were faced during the construction
process. Moreover, I was involved in risk identification activities. I had assessed and evaluated the risks that
were causing the project delay and extra budget. Due to these risks the project schedule and cost baselines
would have seen the deviation. After assessing the risks, we have run the analysis qualitatively and in some
cases quantitatively. The risks with greater probability and impact were addressed with risk responses to mitigate
the risks effects on project. Along with negative risks, positive risks or opportunities were also considered and
explored. Consequently, we completed our project almost in time and within specified budget.
On looking at my profile with risk engineering experience, I was hired by an Italian firm Proger International in
Saudi Arabia. Same activities I performed here as I had done in previous company but at a larger scale. I am
working here on one of the worlds biggest projects. We have multiple sites across the country. The risk exposure is
very great. But my previous experience is helping me a lot.
Risk management is very important part of Project management. For the success of any Project, risk management is
very important. Research shows only up to 15% projects follow baseline schedule. This is only because of poor risk
management. Risk management not only save project schedule time but the cost of the projects can also be
maintained.
I believe that my current working experience and what I did in the past is the main reason that drives me to study in
CIVIL ENGINEERING FOR RISK MITIGATION program.
I understand that a masters degree requires strong commitment, sheer determination, lots of patience and
consistency and I have been practicing these throughout my career. I cleared my high school examination in flying
colors. In my undergraduate and course of studies, I remained among the top students of my class. Moreover, my
letter of recommendations is the proof of this statement that even after making the top in number of subjects & in
my last term, I could manage to achieve 70.03% marks.
I am also certified Project management professional(PMP) and Risk management professional (RMP)from project
management institute.
After completion of my master in Risk mitigation with some Management courses I will be able to shape my
dreams into reality. As by using master & graduation engineering knowledge I can also manage the complex
projects like construction of destructive architectural buildings & also the construction of mega structures & sky
scrapers like Burj Khalifa etc. in more appropriate way which will be beginning of different mode in the
history of Construction Engineering in Pakistan.

After completing my masters, I intend to join the industry and involve myself in engineering safe practices. I am
sure that the knowledge and skills learnt shall help me to outshine in construction industry in our country. It will
open new horizons for Pakistani students as well as researchers and I want to be one of the avant-garde.
I am looking forward that my application can be assessed and approved soon!

Kind Regards,
Muhammad Imran Sharif
