SYLLABUS IN HOME ECONOMICS


Second Semester, SY 2013 - 2014

I. Course Description:
This course focuses on the development of the responsible and worthy home and community membership that will lead the
strengthening of the family and community. The activities shall emphasize the development of the desirable work attitudes relevant
to everyday chores at home, school and community and the production of useful articles.
Activities are designed to provide learners with opportunities and experience to apply the basic knowledge concepts and
principles and relate them to their activities at home in different field at work.
II. General Objectives:
At the end of the course, students are expected to:
1. Promote ones health and that of family members. Through serving simple but nutritious meals.
2. Discuss and explain the food needs of the different groups of people.
3. Save money through proper selection, handling, cooking and serving of food.

4. Plan menus for breakfast, lunch and supper using the basic three food groups as a guide.
5. Make preserve by salting, sugaring and pickling to prevent waste of food.
6. Explain how values and family goals are related to management.
7. Explain the different value of good management of resources, family income, time and energy.
8. Prepare a sample family budget based on ones family income.
9. Tie up proper home management with improved family finances.
10. Helped augment family income by engaging in food preservation, candle making, T-shirt printing, recycling, handicrafts, fancy
making and backyard gardening.
11. Relate knowledge and skills on the TRCs vision and mission.

VI. Course Requirement

A rating of at least 75% in all quizzes, test and preliminary, midterm, and final examination.
Active participation in group discussion and other learning activities.
