EXERCISE 9B
1. Measure with your ruler the lengths of the sides of each given figure and then
find its perimeter.
a. Perimeter: 2.7 cm+2.7 cm +2.7 cm = 8.1 cm

b. Perimeter: 2.7 cm+3.3 cm+1.7 cm+3.3 cm = 11 cm

c. Perimeter: 3.1 cm+1.8 cm+1.5 cm+2.2 cm+1.2 cm = 9.8 cm

2. Find the perimeter of:

a. Perimeter: 9.7 cm +9.7cm +9.7 cm +9.7cm = 38.8 cm

b. Perimeter: 3.2 cm +3.2 cm +5.7cm +5.7 cm = 17.8 cm

c. Perimeter: 4.3 km +3.8 km+ 3.8 km =11.9 km

d. Perimeter: 7 m +6 m +5 m +11 m = 29 m

e. Perimeter: 2.9 cm +2.9 cm +2.9 cm +2.9 cm = 11.6 cm

f. Perimeter: 5 m +13 m +12 m = 30 m

3 Find a formula for the perimeter P of:

a. Perimeter P = a + a + b + b = 2 a + 2 b

b. Perimeter P = k + m + l

5. A rectangle has one side of length 11.2 m and its perimeter is 39:8 m. Find the
width of the rectangle

11.2 m + 11.2 m = 22.4 m

39.8 m 22.4 m = 17.4 m
17.4 m / 2 = 8.7 m
Width 8.7 m
Test P = 11.2 m + 11.2 m + 8.7 m + 8.7 m = 39.8 m

23 mm2 to cm2 0.23 cm2

3.6 ha to m2 36000 m2
726 cm2 to m2 0,0726 m 2
7.6 m2 to mm2 7600000 mm2
8530 m2 to ha 0,853 ha
0.354 ha to cm2 35400000 cm2
13.54 cm2 to mm2 1354 mm2
432 m2 to cm2 4320000 cm2
0.00482 m2 to mm2 4820 mm2

3. Calculate the area of the following rectangles:

a. 50 cm by 0.2 m in cm 2 50 cm * 20 cm = 100.000 cm2
d. 0.2 km by 0.4 km in m2 200 m * 400 m = 80.000 m2
4. A 2 ha block of land is to be divided into 32 blocks of equal size. Find the area
for each block in m2
2 ha 20.000 m2
20.000 / 32 = 625 m2
Area for each block = 625 m2
5. The area of a square coaster is 64 cm2. How many coasters can be made from
a sheet of wood with area 4 m2?
4m2 400 cm2
400 cm2 / 64 cm2 = 6,25
We can made 6 square coaster and left 0,25 from a sheet of wood
Exercise 9C.2
1. Find the area of the shaded region:
c. Area = 1/2 (base * height) 1/2 (14m * 6m) 1/2 (84 m2) 42m2

d. Area = 1/2 (base * height) 1/2 (6 cm * 13 cm) 1/2 (78 cm2) 39cm2

f. Area = base * height 9 cm * 5 cm 45 cm2

h. Area = ((a+b)/2) * h (( 7 cm +5 cm ) / 2) * 4 cm (12 cm /2 ) * 4 cm

6 cm * 4 cm 24 cm2

2. Calculate the height h of the following figures:

a. Area = 1/2 (base * height)
24 cm2 = 1/2 (8 cm * height)
24 cm2 = 8/2 cm * height
24 cm2 = 4 cm * height
24 cm2 / 4cm = height
6 cm = height

b. Area = base * height

36 cm2 = 10 cm * height
36 cm2 / 10 cm = height
3,6 cm = height

c. Area = ((a+b)/2) * height

47m2 = ((7,6 m + 11,2 m)/2) * height
47m2 = ((18,8 m)/2) * height
47m2 = 9,4 m * height
47m2 / 9,4 m = height
5 m = height

3. Find the area shaded:

a. Area = area of rectangle + area of rectangle
Area = (10 m * 7 m) + (7 m * 6 m)
Area = (70 m2) + (42 m2)
Area = 112 m2

b. Area = area of rectangle - area of rectangle

Area = (9 m * 6 m) - (3 m * 5 m)
Area = (54m2) - (15 m2)
Area = 39 m2

c. Area = area of triangle - area of square

Area = (1/2 (b*h)) (s*s)
Area = (1/2 (18m * 10m)) (4m * 4m)

Area = (1/2 (180m2)) (16 m2)

Area = (90m2) (16 m2)
Area = 74 m2

5. Instant lawn costs $15 per square metre. Find the cost of covering a 5.2 m by
3.6 m area with instant lawn.
Area = 5,2 m * 3,6 m
Area = 18,72 m2
Costs= 18,72 m2 * $15
Costs= $280,8
7. A square tile has an area of 256 cm 2. How many tiles are needed for a floor 4m
* 2.4m?
Area = 4 m * 2.4 m
Area = 9,6 m2
256 cm2 = 2,56 m2
we are needed= 9,6 m2 / 2,56 m2 = 3,75 tiles
