The document discusses procedures for trenching in a station area for pipe laying of an LP gas pipeline project.

The purpose of trenching is to stipulate the method of trenching to be carried out in this Pipeline Project.

The steps involved in trenching include marking a reference line, excavating depending on soil conditions, providing suitable crossings, using a pipe locator, ensuring fresh soil is used for backfilling, and maintaining minimum cover depths.

WORK PROCEDURE OF TRENCHING

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this procedure is to stipulate the method of trenching to be carried out in this
Pipeline Project
SCOPE
The scope covers the trenching of the length wise profile with specific soil types of 24 dia. pipeline for
construction of LP gas pipeline from Panipat to Jalandhar. Wherever possible trenching take immediately
after welding of the pipeline
METHOD:
To start with a reference line marked the centerline of the trench in presence of GSPL/DCIL/TPIA.
Depending upon soil conditions, excavation is done on the clear and graded right of way. Suitable
crossing are provided on one side of the trench to the other. For locating the pipeline / OFC, pipe locator
shall be used and accordingly trench shall be mark.
Care is taken to see that the fresh soil recovered from the trenching operation, used for backfilling over
the laid pipeline in the trench should not mixed with any foreign material. Care is also taken that the earth
recovered during trenching is not deposited on the stringed pipe, trenching should not kept open for more
then 2 days Where public or vehicular movement is there.
Ditches, sewers, drains involved where ever in the execution, work shall be maintain if not possible
facility would be provided using temporary pipeline crossings. The trench excavated should have a
minimum width as indicated in the job drawing / specifications. The depth of the cover should be
measured from the top of the pipe. The depth should be sufficient provided maximum coverage is
mentioned below.
Location

Minimum Cover (Meters) from lowest NGL

Industrial, Commercial & Residential Area.

Minor water crossing, Canals , nala, small rivers
Drainage ditches at road
Uncased / Cased road crossings
Rail road crossing
Other areas excluding major water crossings.

The foreign pipeline crossing shall be found out by pipeline locater before trenching work.
The position were foreign pipeline, the trenching shall be done carefully and by manually.
The necessary cover shall be maintained.
Pipeline must be laid in the trench with out any interruption i.e the completed section at the time and the
activity may be carried out to avoid any accidents.
