1.0
PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is for supervision of all preparation for roof treatment and to
ensure that proper quality is exercised at site.
2.0
SCOPE
This procedure covers supervision of construction of roof treatment and record keeping for such
work.

Procedure
Waterproofing treatment shall be done over RCC terrace slabs with or without cuts, openings,
inverted beams, ducts, vents, pipe line etc.
All proprietary material shall be laid to manufacturers specifications and proportions.
The RCC Slab and other surfaces should be cleaned of all foreign materials such as loose
mortars, concrete, local humps, bare material pieces and other unwanted materials. The surface
to be treated shall be hacked with tacha to remove loose mortar scaling and roughened.
The surface should be rubbed vigorously to remove all dust and with the help of wire
brush/brooms. The surface should be cleaned to have proper bond with waterproofing treatment
to be laid.
The surface shall than be washed with clean potable water before laying the waterproofing
treatment. The construction joints, cracks, honey combing, if any, should be located and should
be treated with waterproofing compound, injection, grouting etc. to seal off the cracks, air holes,
honey combing etc. to the entire satisfaction of the engineer in charge.
The prepared terrace shall be then watered again thoroughly and cement slurry shall be spread
over the surface along the waterproofing / damp proofing compounds as per manufacturers
specification.

All materials used for Damp proof course shall be as per TE Specifications.
The min, 50 mm thick PCC consist of PCC 1:3:6 shall be laid over prepared RCC Slab.

Before laying of final layer of Coba Brick Bat, the top surface of wall (terrace) shall be
thoroughly cleaned and watered. The layer shall be cured by keeping the surface wet for 40
hours and after it has dried, two coats of TARFELT shall be fixed with bitumen of grade 80 / 100
over it. Over this, dry sharp sand shall be sprinkled evenly before hardening of second coat of
bitumen paint.
BRICK BAT COBA
The brick bats of required size and shape are laid to proper levels and slope not flatter than 1 in
100, gap to be filled with 1 : 3 cement slurry and will be 20 mm gap.
The brick bats so laid should be allowed to set for at least one week and kept under water. Any
seepage/dampness noticed under side the ceiling should be treated again as detailed above.
The finishing layer shall be of cement mortar 1: 4 with waterproofing compound not less than
1% of weight of cement should be added this layer should be joint less, well compacted and
trowel led vigorously till it becomes hard. This prepared surface is marked with false squares of
300 mm x 300 mm or left smooth as directed by the engineer in charge.
This treatment shall be continued along the inner sides of parapets of a joining wall up to a
height of 300 mm to 375 mm in the shape of parabolic vata. The total thickness of the
treatment shall be average 115 mm thick with at least 50 mm thickness at drain points.
TESTING
The terrace shall be tested for water tightness after the treatment is complete by pounding
water on the terrace and any defects noticed shall be attended to immediately to the entire
satisfaction of Engineer In charge.
GUARANTEE FOR WORKMANSHIP
The contractor shall issue to the Owner a performance guarantee certificate for TEN Years period
for water tightness of the treatment from the date of work completion of the building.
