Update on hosting
a refugee family
After a first info session on the feasibility of hosting a Syrian family, organizers have now been asked to look into the
possibility of finding accommodation for
a government-sponsored refugee family.
If the group can secure at a reasonable monthly rent a 3-bedroom house
within city limits, likely for a family of 8
or 10, then Merritt will be considered to
host a family.
Only after that would a specific family be identified to settle here. And organizers would then be looking for Arabic
speakers to help with translation, donations of furniture, household items, etc.,
etc. So there would be lots of time to get
involved with the project.
In the meantime, if you can help out
with housing, please contact Becky
(250)525-0035.

Taking Advice From Your Boss My boss told me yesterday, Ken, you shouldn't dress for the job
you have, dress for the job you want. But when I turned up at the office today in Ghostbuster's
clothing, she said I was fired.
It's An Honest Mistake A social worker from the city who was recently transferred to the country,
was on the first tour of his new territory when he came upon the tiniest cabin he had ever seen
in his life. Intrigued, he went up and knocked on the door. "Anybody home?" he asked. "Yep,"
came a kid's voice through the door. "Is your father there?" asked the social worker. "Pa? Nope,
he left before Ma came in," said the kid. "Well, is your mother there?" persisted the social
worker. "'Ma? Nope, she left just before I got here," said the kid. "But what," protested the
social worker, "are you never together as a family?" ''Sure, but not here," said the kid through
the door. "This is the outhouse."
