Having knowledge on how the Philippine archipelago was formed or at least how it may have been in the pre-historic era is important. There are evidences of there being more land available for our ancestors and that land bridges even existed. This would mean that the terrestrial landscape today is different from the prehistoric eras. It is important to have knowledge about such things in the past because we might be able to garner enough clues to figure out which kind of events caused the terrain to shift from before to what it is now. Knowing the lay of the land and how it responds to certain events and how it changes is important as it may become beneficial or it may prove to be most helpful when trying to avoid calamities. An example of this would be the effects of climate change to the different terrains of the Philippines and to the habitats and survival of many species that dwell within in. Often enough, knowledge of past can help us in the present on how to predict about potential impacts of environmental change on biodiversity or the sustainability of our agricultural industry. Similarly, studying of Philippine prehistory in order to gain knowledge on our Filipino ancestors is also important as it would help us establish and own national identity. Part of being or becoming a proud nation is being able to solidify and confirm that the nation is an actual solid cohesive group of peoples, aside from believing in the same principles and having the same loyalty to the same flag. This would result into a big boost towards the Filipino which they can be proud of and can be a source of pride in establishing national 1.
