The HSS High Speed Shear


performs automatic in-line
trimming of the rolled stock head
and tail directly in front of the
laying head or before the TMB
block (depending on the wire rod
line configuration). This results in
lower transformation costs, better
coil shape and higher reliability in
trimming procedures in the
production of 5 to 25-mm-dia wire
rod at speeds of up to 120 mps.
Featuring very compact
dimensions and single pair blade
holders, HSS is the most reliable
solution for in line wire rod
trimming.

Highlights of the Automation


system
Automatic setup of the
process parameters for different
steel grades and sizes.
Self-tuning of the equipment
during the rolling process.

System architecture
Level 2 is dedicated to:
- production parameters setup;
- monitoring the process data
thanks to the FDA Fast Data
analyzer software package used
to collect the working data of the
machine and to analyze the data
off-line to improve process
behaviour.
Level 1 is dedicated to:
- controlling the closed loops

of the cutting process;


- on field real time monitoring
of process/equipment.
- Smart Pinch Rolls closed loop
control;
- operator interface with the on
line process.

Other features
The aim of the Smart Pinch Rolls
control is to achieve and maintain
the desired tension of the bar in
between the shear.
The automation system will
guarantee:
Quick roll position setup
based on the required pinching
torque measured on the motor of
the pinch rolls when the bar is
hold by them.
Control of the position of the
pinch rolls during the whole bar

The aim of the HSS equipment is
to guarantee the synchronization
of the diverter with the blades
of the shear.
The automation system will allow:
quick setup based on
the speed of the bar;
position control loop
of the diverter synchronized
with the position of the blades
of the shear;
control of the speed of the
shear blades;
front end orientation at laying
head.
