Emmons School District 33

Volume 2, Number 22 February 12 , 2010

Emmons is students, staff, parents, and community working together to prepare our students for a
successful future through excellent experiences and growth opportunities.

No School Monday….Just a reminder that we will not have school next Monday, February
15th, in observance of President’s Day.

Emmons Tournament Recap…Our 8th grade girls won their tournament last weekend,
defeating Johnsburg Red and St. Emily’s in two extremely close games. Sage Keyes was
recognized as the Tournament MVP, and Lindsey Horn earned All-Tournament Team Player
honors. Our 7th grade came in second place, defeating Johnsburg Red and Montini before losing
to Prince of Peace in the championship game. Shannon Zogran was recognized as the 7th grade
All-Tournament Team Player from Emmons. Thank you to Mrs. Andrea DeJong and Emmons
Athletic Director Dan Wiegel for organizing this wonderful community event for us this year!

Graduation Planning Meeting Rescheduled…The Parents’ Graduation Planning

Committee meeting originally planned for next Tuesday evening has been rescheduled for
Tuesday, March 2, at 7:30pm in the library. Any parents interested in helping plan the 8th grade
dinner dance, scheduled for Monday, May 24th, are invited to attend.

Freshman Registration Rescheduled…8th grade students who were to visit Antioch High
School last Tuesday, February 9th, to meet with their counselors should plan on this meeting next
Tuesday, February 16th, at the high school.

Summer Day…. Friday, February 26th, will be “Summer Day” at Emmons School. Everyone
will be encouraged to wear shorts, flip flops, shades, and sunscreen. We are planning fun
activities (besides school, which is always fun anyway!), contests, and games. Students can
count on summer music throughout the day, and maybe something tasty off the Emmons grill.
The PTO will come around to our classrooms with Sno-Cones and (hopefully) other goodies.

March Lunch Menu…A lunch menu and order form for the month of March are attached to
this week’s edition of The Raider Times. Orders are due by February 18th.

Communication Committee Needs Volunteers…The District 33 Communications

Committee is looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to submit information about
Emmons School (like calendar dates, sporting events, and District activities) to our local Pioneer
Press, Daily Herald, and Chicago Tribune correspondents. If you have about an hour a week that
you would be willing to devote to helping us in this way, please contact Dr. Machak at (847)
