Learning Plan
The Learning Plan is an invaluable study aid
for students studying level 7 programmes as
it shows you how the module is organised.
This online document:
- Introduces you to the module you are
studying
- Specifies the learning outcomes and also
the assessment requirements for the
module
- Shows you how much study should be
completed each week
Lectures/workshops
Face-to-face lectures and/or workshops are
available for certain modules. Information on
the content and format of these workshops
is available in each modules learning plan/
study guide.
Manual
Most modules in our level 7 programmes,
and some at level 8, are accompanied by a
manual which contains the primary content
for the module. The manual is sent to you
after you register. It is essential that you have
a thorough knowledge of all areas covered
in the manual - there is no substitute for
studying the manual. An electronic version is
available on My Institute for students making
a resit attempt at the module.
Text Book
Textbooks are recommended for many
modules at level 8 and 9. On your registration
you will receive a reading list for your
modules which will let you know if there are
compulsory or supplemental textbooks that
you need to purchase. Where a textbook
is used, the study guide will indicate what
chapters are important, and when they will be
discussed in a workshop or lecture.

Terms and Conditions
REGISTRATION
In order to avail of the Institutes qualification programmes and
services you must become and remain a current member of the
Institute. The Institute of Banking membership fee of c40 applies
for the calendar year and for new membership is payable on
registration. It is then payable annually and falls due on 1 January
each year.
If you are registering for the Professional Certificate or Diploma
in Compliance, Professional Certificate in Financial Crime
Prevention, Professional Certificate in Data Protection or the MSc
in Compliance a yearly membership fee of c150 to the ACOI is
applicable, payable on registration to the programme and on 1
August each year thereafter. You do not need to be a member of
the Institute also to register for these programmes.
When you are registering to a programme of study you can register
on a module by module basis to that programme. On registration
a notice of confirmation of your registration will be emailed to you
and posted online to My Institute; you should read this to confirm
that the details are correct. If not, you should inform the Institute
as soon as possible. If you have not received a confirmation email
within 10 working days of your initial submission you should
contact us at [email protected] or +353 (0) 1 611 6500.
Entry Requirements - The second level educational requirements
for employment in financial institutions are normally acceptable
for entry to the Institutes educational programmes at level
7 (unless there are specific entry requirements stated in the
programme overview in this prospectus). These educational
requirements are five passes in the Leaving Certificate including
English and Mathematics or five O Level/GCSE passes including
English Language and Mathematics. Mature applicants, who are
over 21 years of age, are exempt from these entry criteria. You do
not need to enclose a copy of your Leaving Certificate/GCSEs
results with your registration if you are employed by a recognised
financial institution or classified as a mature applicant (over 21
years of age). In all other cases you should send a copy with your
registration. For all other programmes (levels 8 and 9), see the
entry requirements specified under each programme.
66
If you are registering for more than one module you should
ensure that you have sufficient time available to dedicate to your
studies. We strongly advise you to register on time, i.e. at the
start of the semester, and to carefully estimate the workload of
the modules you are registered for. A 5 ECTS credit module has
a notional workload of 100-125 hours approximately and a 10
ECTS credit module has a notional workload of 200-250 hours.
We strongly recommend no more than 10-15 ECTS credits in
a semester. Module credits are listed in this prospectus in the
programme information.

achievement of the learning outcomes and completion of the
module and/or programme.

MANUALS
We support many of our programmes with customised study
manuals which are included in the cost of the programme. For
some of the Level 8, modules textbooks must be purchased
separately. If there is a study manual for your programme or if
you have purchased a textbook, we will send it to you within two
weeks of the semester start date or within 10 working days of
your registration being processed.
We will send study manuals/textbooks to your work address
unless you have advised us on your registration form that we
should send them to your home address. The Institute does
not take responsibility for manuals/textbooks which have been
misplaced or the non-receipt of manuals/textbooks which have
been dispatched to home addresses. Where an address has
been amended after a registration has been processed, it is
your responsibility to locate the manual/textbook at the address
provided on the registration form.
It is your responsibility to make sure that you have the most
up-to-date materials for your studies, including an up-to-date
manual/textbook. You can find a copy of the most up-to-date
study manual on My Institute but we cannot provide soft copies
of textbooks. Re-registration students can purchase an up-todate study manual for c35 as this is not automatically re-issued.
WITHDRAWALS, DEFERRALS AND RE-REGISTRATION
If you are unsuccessful or do not attend an examination for which
you have registered, you should re-register to the relevant module
at the next available sitting. Re-registration fees for modules are
payable in advance. If you are unable to attend an examination due
to extenuating circumstances, you should complete the extenuating
circumstances form and submit it to the Head of Registry within
10 working days of the exam date. If approved, module(s) will be
re-registered to the NEXT available sitting. For further details on
extenuating circumstances see www.iob.ie/examdetails.
