10. Academic Activities under TEQIP-II

1.

Five Post Graduate Courses will be started

Number of PG seats of all courses will be increased

Enrollment of Ph.D candidates will be increased

4.

Non-Gate PG students (50) will be given Rs. 8,000 per month & full time Ph.D
students will be given Rs. 18,000 per month as scholarship

5.

Faculty members are encouraged to present papers in international

conferences

6.

Around 100 FDP programs are planned for April 2013 to March 2014

The 120 students of Mechanical Engineering are taken for industrial tour to Sea-Bird, Karwar & Hampi for 7 days
The 90 students of Electrical Engineering are taken to Varahi underground Hydro Power, Sharavathi Hydro Power & Kaiga Nuclear
Power Station for 7 days
The 120 students of Civil Engineering are taken to survey camp to Ghati Subramanya, Doddaballapura for 15 days
The 60 students of Computer Science & Information Science are taken to industrial visit to TITAN Industries Pvt. Ltd., Hosur for one day
(through IEEE Student Chapter)

An expert Dr. Rama Kumar, Group leader, from Honeywell, Bangalore has initiated a experimental project with Thermal Science
student on Imperiment of Jet-flow on flat & curved plates, in collaboration with Dr. C K Umesh, Associate Professor, Department of
Mechanical Engineering, UVCE, Bangalore

16. Equity Action Plan

Objective: To ensure that all students and faculty in the project institutions have equal opportunity to avail benefits of the project
with substancial improvement in performance of weak students
1.

Weak Students: Those who have failed or scored less than 50% in their subjects in a given year/semester and/or lost a year or
more (If number of students scored less than 50% are very less then 65 % will be taken as minimum percentage)

All the department of UVCE are in the process of identifying weak students and planning to conduct remedial teaching through
academic sessions for improving transition rate and pass rate of students
2.

Finishing School: A committee is constituted for establishing finishing school. The members are: Chairperson + One concerned
faculty member of activity, Nodal officer (Equity action plan Convenor), Hostel Wardens (Both Boys and Girls Hostels),
Placement Officer, Nodal Officer (Academic), Programme Coordinator, Principal

Placement Training in specialized soft skills and professional skills are being conducted during vacations for increasing
employability

4.

Personality Development training for 4th, 5th and 6th semester students will be conducted during vacation

Scholarships for PG and Ph.D Students: As per AICTE/TEQIP/State Govt. Norms

Emphasis is given in all the above areas for Socially disadvantaged students as per TEQIP norms
