TASK 1.1
Assume that you are the newly appointed Senior Quantity Surveyor to Ms/ Dunhill Associates
who are providing Quantity Surveying and Cost Consultancy services . You are requested to
submit a report to your Employers agent of one of your projects, who is a non technical personal
but trustworthy educated close relation to the Employer,
In your report introduce the background of quantity surveying practice and explain your roles in
various phases of the project such as feasibility phase, schematic design phase, design
development phase, bidding evaluation and negotiation phase, construction phase,

TASK 1.2.

Assume that you are the Project Quantity Surveyor attached to Ms/ Prime Building Contractors
Ltd. Prepare Final Particulars of your Extension of Time Claim for the delay event occurred due to
encountering physical obstruction in one of your projects named Proposed Shopping Centre at
Mount Garden . You submit your report

to cover the relevant provisions of the FIDIC

Conditions of Contract. Your report shall comprise

SECTION 2
Construction Procurement and dispute resolution
Task 2.1
Recent mineral exploration programs have found that there are several small to medium
mining mineral such as Vein Quartz and calcite in the North of Udawalwae National Park in
Sri Lanka. This area is major habitat of wild elephants and many dry intermediate zone flora
and fauna. Also the area is located in the catchment of Walawe River. Due to the
environmental impact, the wild life conservation department and environmentalist suggest
to have more income generation project surrounding to the area instead of mining.
Subsequently it was proposed to have eco tourism. In this regard it is a requirement to build
cottages, restaurants, swimming pool and high security fence/boundary together with access
way. The investor is a foreign developer, willing to fund this project.
Assume you as the consultant to the project explain and demonstrate with a system how you
would make your selection for the most suitable procurement method to the project. You are
asked to develop the best procurement method to the said project and justify why you
arrived to this decision in technically, contractually, economically and environmentally. This
demonstration should be present in professional manner. Support with available
procurement methods and reasons for non selective procurement methods.
Task 2.2
In the above project the investor is having experience in the construction disputes. How
would you make advice to him to build the contractual relationship to avoid disputes in the
particular contract. Explain according to the governing law/ADR. Your explanation should
included dispute mitigation actions by the client and other team members / external factors,
etc.
The investor is thinking about implication of international change of crude oil price and
price escalation to the project, as it is schedule to commence the project on this year.
Discuss how you cater with this if disputes arise.
