The City also recognizes gardens through the "Kitchener in Bloom" program. Just send
the address of the property you wish to nominate to City Hall, either by email to [email protected] or call 519-741-2200 x7224. You can nominate your friend,
your neighbour, yourself - or someone you don't even know. Each nominee gets a letter
and a small sign for their yard, and may be considered for more recognition.

Thank you to Jacob Winter for organizing an Easter Egg Hunt
for the children in the neighbourhood, which he promoted on our
ACNA Facebook page. This event, which took place on April 4th,
was enjoyed by many children and their parents.
This Summer, A Cleaner Neighbourhood Awaits You
In April, we had our annual Community Clean-Up Day, soon after Earth Day. We had
only a few people show up, but that was still a success. Each year, there seems to be
less litter out there. Here's why we think that's happening:
- When we started this event several years ago, there was lots more to pick up and we
have since been cutting down the amount of garbage that lingers for many years.
- Last fall, some of our neighbours cleaned up a lot of litter in the woods of Alpine Park
on their own initiative.
- The elementary school students in the area pitch in and do their bit.
- We hope that people are tossing less litter when they see areas that are litter-free.
We'd like to thank those who helped clean up and
thanks also goes to the City of Kitchener who provided
garbage bags and work gloves to the volunteers.
Lets keep up the good work during the year to come!

Reminder: The 2015 Alpine Community Garage Sale

Our annual Garage Sale will be held on Saturday June 6th. If the weather is poor that day,
our rain date is the next Saturday, June 13th. Check our Facebook page and blog to see if
we decide to go to the 13th.
Hold your sale at your own home and set your own hours. Use your own signs to direct buyers to your
place. ACNA will promote the sales in the area on Kijiji and with signs in the neighbourhood.
So get your wonderful pre-loved items for sale out there!! You're going to need the space in your home
for those items you'll pick up at other people's sales.

Check Your Calendar - ACNA's June Meeting Postponed

Our regular June meeting will now be held Thursday June 18th, at 7:00 PM at
a different location than usual - the Country Hills Community Center. We will
have our Annual General Meeting within the regular meeting. We had to delay that from May.
Our next meeting after the summer break will be Tuesday September 15th,
7:00 p.m. also at the Country Hills Community Center. Our October meeting
will be October 6th - 7:00 p.m. - at Alpine Public School
The Community Outreach Program: What is it?
The Community Outreach Program is a community-based program created to prevent and reduce the
depth of child poverty in the Waterloo Region. Their goal is to assist children and families living with
low income to access the services they need in their own communities.
Families living in the Country Hills and Alpine areas can contact the Outreach Worker to find out about
services they may be eligible for, and can meet this person at the Country Hills Community Center.
Benefits provided can include:
- fee assistance for recreation for children under age 18 years
- access to the Food Bank
- used clothing or low cost clothing
- access to counselling
- help with transportation
- employment and continuing education resources

What can you do to be more involved in your neighbourhood?

- Come out to our monthly meetings. We enjoy getting together. We plan events, discuss issues of concern, exchange information.
- Tell us what you want in this newsletter, suggest a topic, or write something yourself; perhaps an interesting story you want to share.
- Pay a tribute to a special neighbour, through the newsletter, blog or Facebook page.
- Get involved in our events - like our Earth Day Cleanup, or Halloween Food Drive.
- Join our Facebook page and contribute there.
- Help us deliver the newsletter. It's a volunteer effort! Four times a year and no more than a few dozen
for each person to deliver.

Alpine Community Neighbourhood Association - Who Are We?
We are the neighbourhood association for the area bounded by Block Line Road, Homer Watson Blvd,
Strasburg Road and Ottawa Street. Anybody living within these boundaries is welcome to join. We volunteer to ensure a better social, economic and business climate in the neighbourhood. We publish this
newsletter, organize events, hold an annual food drive, provide our neighbours with useful information,
and focus on problems in the neighbourhood. We meet once a month during the school year, usually
the first Tuesday of each month, in the Alpine Public School library, at 7:00PM. Feel free to come to a
