    CATALYTIC CONVERTER: REMOVAL - REFITTING

    Note, one or more warnings are present in this procedure

    Tightening torques
    turbocharger outlet studs

    7 Nm

    catalytic converter mounting nuts on the turbocharger

    26 Nm

    bolts mounting the upstream stay on the engine

    44 Nm

    bolts mounting the downstream stay on the gearbox

    21 Nm

    catalytic converter upstream strut mounting bolt

    25 Nm

    catalytic converter downstream strut mounting bolt

    21 Nm

    exhaust pipe mounting bolt on the body

    21 Nm

    catalytic converter outlet exhaust bracket studs

    7 Nm

    exhaust bracket nuts

    21 Nm

    bolts on the ball joint bracket fitted with their springs

    21 Nm

    battery cover mounting bolts

    4 Nm

    REMOVAL

    Position the vehicle on a two-post lift.

    Disconnect the batteryBattery: Removal - Refitting (MR 364, 80A, Battery).

    Remove the engine undertray.

    Remove:

    the exhaust bracket mounting bolts(1) ,

    the catalytic converter strut mounting bolt(2) .

    Loosen the other stay mountings on the gearbox.

    Remove the stay(3) .

    Remove the exhaust pipe rubber mounting bush bolt(4) from the body.

    Note:
    Mark with a pen the position of the exhaust silentbloc supports on the vehicle body.

    Remove the silencer rubber mounting bush bolt(5) .

    Withdraw the exhaust pipe towards the rear of the vehicle.

    Remove:

    the catalytic converter upstream stay mounting bolts,

    the catalytic converter strut(6) ,

    the nuts(7) mounting the catalytic converter to the turbocharger,

    the catalytic converter.

    REFITTING

    -5-

    CAUTION
    Always replace:

    the catalytic converter seal,

    the turbocharger - catalytic converter bracket studs.

    Torque tighten the turbocharger outlet studs7 Nm.

    Fit the catalytic converter.

    Pretighten in order:

    the upstream strut bolts on the engine,

    the upstream strut bolts on the catalytic converter,

    the downstream strut bolts on the gearbox,

    the downstream stay bolts on the catalytic converter,

    the catalytic converter/turbocharger mounting nuts.

    Tighten to torque and in order

    the catalytic converter mounting nuts on the turbocharger26 Nm ,

    the bolts mounting the upstream stay on the engine44 Nm ,

    the bolts mounting the downstream stay on the gearbox21 Nm ,

    the catalytic converter upstream strut mounting bolt25 Nm ,

    the catalytic converter downstream strut mounting bolt21 Nm ,

    the exhaust pipe mounting bolt on the body21 Nm .

    Note:
    Make sure there is no contact between the catalytic converter and the turbocharger oil return pipe.

    Torque tighten:

    the catalytic converter outlet exhaust bracket studs7 Nm,

    the exhaust bracket nuts21 Nm .

    Refit the engine undertray.

    Make sure that there is no contact with the underbody.

    CAUTION
    Any damaged heat shields must be replaced.

    Connect the batteryBattery: Removal - Refitting (MR 364, 80A, Battery).

    Torque tighten the battery cover mounting bolts4 Nm.
