The Return to Princeton
Greetings,
On behalf of the entire 2014 Ivy Sports Symposium Planning Committee, Board of Directors, Advisory Committee, Young Leaders
Committee and Sports Symposium Fellow, it is our distinct pleasure to welcome you to the 9th Annual Ivy Sports Symposium.
Today, the Ivy Sports Symposium returns to its roots at Princeton University, where just less than nine years ago it originated
as a vision of former Princeton undergraduate, Chris Chaney. Featuring 25 speakers from diverse corners of the industry, the
Princeton Sports Symposium was born. It set out to bring together industry leaders and their potential successors to cultivate
both information sharing and relationship building. Almost a decade later, the Symposium has now featured over 400 unique
speakers from around the globe and attracted student attendees from over 50 colleges and universities. Despite this growth, we
are proud that the mission of the Symposium has stayed the course.
Each year, the Ivy Sports Symposium recognizes individuals and organizations that have accomplished truly exceptional and
outstanding feats within the industry and places a spotlight on those destined to shape its future. We hope that the synergy
developed through bringing these two groups together will spark ideas and innovative approaches to conquering the challenges
that lie ahead and taking advantage of the industrys greatest opportunities.
Furthermore, this event would not be possible without our valued sponsors and partners. Their tremendous generosity has
enabled the Ivy Sports Symposium to become one of the worlds premier sports business conferences.
Finally, we thank you for your support and are delighted to host you at what will undoubtedly be our best installment yet.
Best Regards,

SHARK TANK
Introducing the Shark Tank Competition
Dear Guests,
Sports Symposium Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the Ivy Sports Symposium Shark Tank Competition! This opportunity
was created to offer sports-related start-ups a platform to share their ideas and accomplishments with event attendees.
Staged before a unique audience of aspiring and accomplished sports business professionals at the conference, shortlisted
teams will provide compelling cases to highlight their entrepreneurial accomplishments. After a call for applications, three
impressive finalists were selected.
Presentations and ideas will be evaluated by our judges panel which includes five established sports industry professionals
who have experience and expertise in entrepreneurship, venture capitalism, marketing and start-ups, among other specialties.
The judges will initiate a question and answer session following the presentations and base their decision on the following
criteria: value proposition, the opportunity teams have identified, idea originality and innovation, market potential and the
likeliness of whether they would invest.
The winning team will receive advisory services and one all expense round trip airlines ticket to anywhere in the world, provided
by Turkish Airlines.
Good luck to our finalists!
Sincerely,
@SPORTSSYMPOSIUM // 11

The area in which weve seen the most change this year has
been the acceptance of LGBTQ players, particularly with male
athletes. The founding of You Can Play in 2012 was a big first
step in helping to foster acceptance for gay athletes in sports,
and in 2014 the group hit some big milestones. In January,
Gabriel Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche voiced his support
for the organization. With Landeskogs support, every team
in the NHL now has at least 1 player that has publicly agreed
with the organizations motto: if you can play, you can play.
Additionally, every NHL team showed their support on Spirit
Day in October of this year, with many of them making their
social media avatars purple or tweeting about You Can Play and
GLAAD. The NHL lacks an out player, but their willingness to
support acceptance seems to grow every year.

The way fans consume professional sports is everchanging. With the increasing use of smart phones and tablets, as well
as the the rise of digital sports consumption, the sports media landscape must adapt to stay relevant and profitable.
How can media companies continue to innovate to meet consumer needs? Where do live sporting events fit in the
convergence between online content and cable television? And what role will social media play in connecting fans with
their favorite events, teams, and players?
