Grantham Canal
restoration moves forward
The Grantham Canal, just over
200 years old, designed by
William Jessop, was nearly filled
in during the 1960s - what a
waste if it had been! Thanks to
the Grantham Canal Society and
the Canal and River Trust,
restoration is moving forward! An
announcement on 18th December
by the CRT was of 830,500
Cutting back undergrowth
from the Heritage Lottery Fund for
a volunteer-led project to restore
locks 14 and 15, near Woolsthorpe. There will be training for volunteers
to gain heritage and restoration skills, supported by the Waterway
Recovery Group and Grantham College. The project also aims to raise
awareness of the Canals heritage. Recruiting is under way for anyone
willing to take part. Your time, no matter how much you may have
available, is precious to us and we will do our utmost to ensure that you
find a task that satisfies you. If you can spare some time, skill, ability or
brute force, or are seeking a work experience role contact us at

However the financial aspect has currently led to shelving the

The Parish Council election will held be on Thursday, May 7th, alongside
the parliamentary and borough elections.
A big thank you to all the Lions, family and friends, that so swelled our

other local deserving causes. Nigel Davies
Whenever you use the recycling facility on Normanton Lane your visit is
counted automatically. It is important that you exit over the ramp by the
Office to be included. Visitor numbers are necessary in ensuring that the
tip remains open. Just imagine what the fly-tipping would be like if we
lose it!
