REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION INVESTMENTS

SOUTH OF FRASER: SURREY, LANGLEYS, WHITE

ROCK, DELTA AND TSAWWASSEN FIRST NATION
South of Fraser communities are some of the fastest-growing communities in Metro Vancouver currently experiencing
congestion and long and unreliable commute times. These communities will continue to grow and are expected to
welcome 380,000 new residents over the next 30 years.

WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION TO REDUCE CONGESTION BY INVESTING IN OUR REGIONS

TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM
Congestion is bad for the air we breathe, its damaging to our economy, it erodes family time and it impacts our health.
The cost of not investing in our transportation system will be the highest cost of all, as failing to act will lead to more
overcrowded SkyTrain cars and buses, traffic gridlock and even longer commuting times.

EVERYONE BENEFITS FROM TRANSPORTATION INVESTMENTS

To provide a fast and efficient transportation system in a growing region, the Vision is proposing new and better
service, expanded infrastructure and other investments to keep the regions people and goods moving, including:

LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT (LRT) PROVIDING REAL TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVES FOR DRIVERS

Service on King George Boulevard and 104 Avenue between Guildford, Surrey City Centre and
Newton, and on Fraser Highway between Surrey City Centre and Langley Centre

PATTULLO BRIDGE REPLACING INFRASTRUCTURE TO IMPROVE SAFETY, RELIABILITY AND TO MEET

FUTURE DEMAND

A new four-lane bridge, designed to keep the possibility of future expansion to six lanes, will replace the
existing Pattullo Bridge
The new bridge will include modern lane widths that meet safety standards, a centre barrier separating
northbound and southbound traffic, and effective cycling and pedestrian facilities

B-LINE INTRODUCING MORE THAN THREE TIMES AS MANY B-LINES

New B-Line: Surrey City Centre to Langley via Fraser Highway until LRT is introduced
Extend 96 B-Line to White Rock Centre via King George Boulevard and 152nd Street

New B-Line: Scott Road Station to Newton Exchange via Scott Road and 72nd Avenue

BUS INCREASE IN SERVICE FOR MORE RELIABLE, MORE FREQUENT AND EXTENDED SERVICE

throughout the day and into the evening, every day of the week, e.g., 88th Avenue in Surrey/Langley,
200th Street in Langley
Improve and expand frequent peak service: service that runs at least every 15 minutes, e.g., 112th Street,
152nd Street in Surrey and Highway 17 in Delta
Expand basic coverage network: Brookswood and Willoughby (Langley)

EXISTING RAIL UPGRADES
Upgrades and expansion to fleet and stations on existing rapid transit lines, including the Expo and
Millennium Lines, to reduce overcrowding and improve the transit experience

BUS EXCHANGE UPGRADES

Expansion, upgrade or reconfiguration of transit facilities at the Surrey City Centre Exchange,
the Willowbrook Exchange, the Langley Exchange and the South Delta Exchange and Park and Ride

CYCLING/WALKING IMPROVEMENTS
Investments in cycling routes in partnership with municipalities: 2,700 kilometres of bikeways including
300 kilometres of fully traffic separated routes region-wide
Investments in bike parking at transit stations
Better connections to transit through pedestrian improvements at or near transit stops and stations

ROAD INVESTMENT

An additional $36 million per year will go towards maintaining and upgrading the Major Road Network
(MRN), in a cost-share with municipalities around the region
