annual Golf “Attached is a picture of 3 very happy Marines that are
Classic! huge coffee drinkers. They will enjoy it the most, but the
rest of us will also enjoy it too. It is the small things in
life that make the big things so much easier. Please pass
to those that donated generously that it is was
12th Annual ASY/USO Golf Classic greatly appreciated.”
It was a sunny, warm morning on Friday, 21 March, when

the eager USO and ASYMCA staff members arrived at the
Admiral Baker Golf Course, along with energetic volunteers
(both civilian and military) to set up for the 12th Annual
ASYMCA/USO Golf Classic. At 1130, armed with clubs and
box lunches, the golfers heard “Ladies and Gentlemen, start
your carts and head for your tees.” Over 160 golfers stared
down at the dimple, picked up their driver, and blasted the
golf balls down the fairway. Thanks to the players, volunteers
and staff, the tournament was an absolute success and
generated funding for ASYMCA and USO programs for
military families. A special thanks to Jim Higgins, Admiral
Baker Golf Course PGA Professional
and his superb staff for making the
tournament a success.

Active Duty Military Program

Easter Cards with Seasoned Sisters
The Active Duty Program received close to 200
Easter Cards, each one with a personal note of
support and appreciation, written by members
of the Seasoned Sisters club! These cards
were hand delivered to the many active duty
men and women who spent Easter Sunday
serving our country. All of those who received
cards were deeply touched by this heartfelt
gesture.

From the Desk of Executive Director Paul Steffens:
As we enter April, and prepare for our Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon and our Third
Annual Healthy Kids Day, we should pause and take note of what would we do without the
hundreds of volunteers, both civilian and military, who assist us in our programs, who contribute
so much to military families. These volunteers give countless hours to “making things happen.”
While these volunteers are not paid, what they receive is worth more than any paycheck - they
receive the immense satisfaction of knowing that they helped so many people. As I meet with
my amazing staff each time to discuss specific events and the good that the event brought to
military families, I ask them to step back and ask themselves “what if you were not there?”
What the event provided to military families would not have happened! The same is true for
our volunteers - so much good would not happen. We should also take note of the importance
of providing quality events for kids. Events that improve their quality of life, provide foundations
for their positive growth - mental, physical and spiritual. These kids are the future and we
need to continue providing solid events, such as Healthy Kids Day, that add to their foundation
of life. To all our volunteers and to everyone who supports our programs, both with time and
donations, you have our respect, our appreciation and the knowledge that you assist us in
“making things happen.”
