3. The work of each component

A. Disc/rotor
Disc or rotor attached to the wheel. This component work as a media against
friction of the brake pad.
B. Caliper
This component work as a house of piston and equipped with line of brake fluid.
C. Piston
The brake fluid continue the braking force in the form of hydraulic pressure to the
piston and this condition caused the piston pushed to pressure the pad.

D. Piston Seal
When the piston pushed by brake fluid, the piston seal deforms as the piston
moves. After the pressure of the brake fluid is removed, the piston seal returns
amount of its deformation.
E. Brake Pad
This component works by clamping disc due to pressure from the piston when
hydraulic pressure is applied. So the surface of brake pad and the surface of disc
brake will rub against each other.
F. Dust Boot
This component work as a protector of the piston from the dirt.
G. Brake Fluid
This component works by continue the braking force in the form of hydraulic
pressure to the piston in the caliper.
H. Fluid Line
This component work as a media to flow the brake fluid into the caliper.

4. The similiarities and diferences cars disc brake with cars drum
brake

Similiarities
Disc brake and drum brake have the funtion to reduce or retard the velocity of a
car.
Diferences
Disc brake use a piston seal to return the brake pad into initial condition.
Drum brake use a spring to return the brake pad on the brake shoe into the
initial condition.
As a media against friction of the brake pad, in disc brake use disc or rotor.
But in the drum brake use a drum.

5. Strength and weakness

Strength
Disc brake have the ability water recovery better than drum brakes, because
the water will be thrown out of the surface of the disc and brake pad due to
centrifugal force.
Disc brake have the ability to release heat greater than the drum brake.
Braking power can reach 100% because entire the brake pad rubbing directly
to the disc.
Weakness
open construction causing dirt enter easily into components of the disc brake
so that the disc braking performance is hampered.

6. How to maintenance

Check the brake fluid condition every 2 weeks.

Check the condition of the brake pad and always keep it clean of dirt with
sandpaper or brush.
Replace the brake fluid every 10000 km.
Replace the brake pad every 20000-25000 km.
