together with your Board of Officers to plan for this year,
but don't worry- it's not too late! It is prime time for

I encourage you all to take note of our District events for
the fall semester and put them on your club's calendar!

My CKIx Experience!
My name is Rodney Cline and I had the chance to attend CKIx in Nashville
TN this year. I also got the chance to serve as a group leader for the Largescale service project (LSSP) portion of the event. So
while
everyone else was still packing I was in Nashville early
setting up for the event. During the LSSP portion
of the event my group, which was named "The
Only Ten-I-See," got the chance to help clean
a nature trail and also clean one of
Nashville's many beautiful parks. During the LSSP part I
was given the chance to meet people all the way from
Jamaica to Western Canada, and participated in a
fundraiser where I ate baby food to raise money for
ELMINATE. After the LSSP portion ended, the
convention portion began. It was slam packed
which a bunch of information and politics. For
example, we learned proper etiquette for business
settings and everyday life. We also learned about
Up With People,
our new service
partner. Don't forget
the fun of House of
Delegates! I had the chance
to bond with members of the
Carolinas District and do what our district
does best- HAVE FUN! From meeting
Brendon Urie and other members from Panic!
At The Disco and TV star Lucy Hale, to staying up late and
going to Jack In The Box at 3am to get food and water so
we wouldn't have
to pay $7.00 at the hotel. This was my third International
Convention and I had just as much fun (if not more fun) than my past two years in New Orleans
and Vancouver. I look forward to my last one in Indianapolis next year and hope to see all of you
guys there!

Game time!

We
are
Carolinas!

"My experience from CKIx was one of the best experiences I' ve had in my entire life. In fact, it was
the highlight of my summer. Several days before this event was set to kick off, I was very excited but
I didn' t know what to expect at the same time. I assumed that Large Scale Service Project was a
lot similar to DLSSP, and I thought that International Convention was a lot similar to District
Convention. As I later found out, neither International event was entirely like the ones on
the district level. During the LSSP portion of that week, we were dispersed in different
parts of Tennessee, and each of us were given a variety of different tasks. My most
favorite project involved wood work, an experience that was entirely new for me.
At the hotel, we were voluntarily given several service projects to work on by our
own choice. This also gave us additional time to fellowship with other people.
It was awesome meeting, interacting, and working with other CKI members
on an international level. Whenever CKI reunited as a whole group, the
activities that followed involved everyone' s participation, energy,
and CKI spirit. These activities included competitive social games,
chanting, and even square dancing. During the ICON portion of
that week, the event was mostly professional from that point on.
We attended CKI workshops, caucuses, House of Delegates,
ate an etiquette lunch, and later attended the CKIx talent
show. The experience was topped off with dancing and
donations. Throughout that week, we were given
multiple opportunities to donate to different
charities as well. Furthermore, I obtained a lot
of information that I plan to pass along to my
home club and plan to use in everyday life.
We were given adequate information
about the importance of teamwork,
how to enhance our social skills,
and how to network. My CKIx
experience is one of my
most memorable ones,
and I look forward to
attending next year' s
as well."

My CKIx Experience!
Hey Carolinas District!
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Dawn Miller and I am
your Carolinas District Secretary. A little bit about me: I am a senior in Human
Biology at North Carolina State University. With the upcoming school year,
I will be going on my fourth year in Circle K, and I have absolutely enjoyed
every single minute of it! This past June, I had the privilege of attending Circle
K' s 59th Annual International Convention in Nashville, TN. The event was
titled CKIx; a six-day volunteer and social experience that was jam packed
with activities encompassing the 3 tenets of CKI that we all know so well:
service, leadership, and fellowship.
LSSP was likely my favorite part of CKIx. I got to bond with CKI
members from various colleges and universities in the US and Canada. We
all grew so close in two short days and I very much look forward to seeing
them next year. Fun fact: At the end of LSSP, the attendees of CKIx as a whole
completed more than 3,800 service hours. That' s about 14 hours of service
per member! In addition to service, attendees raised more than $1,000 during CKIx
for The Eliminate Project, the initiative involving all branches of the Kiwanis family to
"eliminate" maternal neonatal tetanus from numerous third world countries.
As a delegate at the convention, I also had the privilege of participating in House
of Delegates, which is where delegates from CKI clubs all over the world vote on proposed amendments to the
International Bylaws as well as elect of the 2014-2015 International Board of Officers. I very much enjoyed listening
to the opinions and ideas presented by Circle K' ers from various districts when discussing and voting on proposed
amendments. House of Delegates was where our individual voices could be heard when in comes to building and
growing this organization that we all love so dearly. It showed me that we all have an individual voice that deserves
to be heard. It was also proof that each and every single one of us is crucial in helping Circle K International progress
and flourish as a whole.
All in all, CKIx was a fantastic experience that any Circle K' er could benefit from. I met and bonded with
so many people from all walks of life and I' m so blessed to have had the opportunity to participate in this event.
I learned that CKI is so much bigger than I had imagined. I not only recommend that every member reading this
should go, but I urgenoBEG for you to go! Next year, at CKIx 2015 in Indianapolis, IN, CKI will be celebrating
the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis International, so I expect the convention to be even more epic than the last! I
cannot wait to experience CKIx again and I hope to see you all there!

Service Project Spotlight!

"Hickory Soup Kitchen"
Serving at the Hickory Soup Kitchen was the service project
during the CKI Summer Leadership Retreat in June.
Most of the members had never been to
a soup kitchen, so this was a unique
unnerving project for them. They were surprised at
the number of children who were there for the noon
meal. Several of the clients hugged and thanked our
members which brought tears to their eyes. Needless
to say the Hickory Soup Kitchen will be on the list of
regular service projects for the CVCC CKI.
Aaron Moser, President, commented,
I have been helping at the Hickory Soup Kitchen through my church, and
now it's great to get the chance with my school club as well. Volunteers get the
chance to serve food, clean up afterwards, and just give a welcoming greeting to those who come
to the soup kitchen. I love being able to help in any way I can with the soup kitchen because it is
direct involvement with those who need our help in the community. It's a great feeling when you
realize just how a little help that you give to people can go a long way in their life and make their day
brighter.
