Creative Curriculum Dough Recipes
1. Goop
1 part liquid starch
2 parts white glue (Elmers glue works the best)
Mix with hands until smooth. If mixture is too runny, add more white glue. If mixture is too
sticky, add more liquid starch.
2. Flubber
Combine in a large bowl or container:
1 cups warm water
2 cups white glue (Elmers glues works the best)
4-6 drops of food coloring (color/colors of your choice)
Combine in a second, smaller bowl or container:
1 1/3 cups warm water
3 teaspoons of Borax (this can be found in the laundry detergent aisle)
Mix each container completely. Slowly pour the smaller container into the larger. Gently lift and
turn mixture until only a small amount of liquid is left. Allow excess liquid to drip off.
3. Jell-O Dough
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 Tablespoons cream of tarter
2 cups boiling water
2 Tablespoons cooking oil
3 oz. package of sugar free Jell-O
Combine all ingredients together, stir over medium heat until it forms a ball. Knead and let cool
on wax paper.
4. Salt Dough
1 cup water
1 cup salt
cup flour
Combine ingredients, adding food coloring if desired. Cook and stir on low heat.
5. Uncooked Dough
1 cups flour
cup salt
cup water
Mix all ingredients together, slowly adding more water if needed. Knead until a workable dough
is formed.
6. Cornmeal Dough
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup salt
1 cup water
Mix together, add more water to make mixture cling, if necessary.
7. Cloud Dough
3 cups flour
2 Tablespoons powdered tempera
cup oil
Water
Mix together flour, tempera, oil. Add enough water to make a soft, pliable dough (does not keep
well)
8. Oatmeal Dough
1 cup flour
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup water
Food coloring
Mix flour, oatmeal; add water gradually
9. Coffee Dough
1 cup salt
cup instant coffee
1 cups warm water
4 cups flour
Mix dry ingredients well, slowly add water to make dough
10. Kool-Aid Dough
2 cups flour
cup salt
2 package unsweetened kool-aid
3 Tablespoons oil
2 cups boiling water
Mix ingredients together until pliable dough.
* can also be made as a cooked dough, stirring over low heat until mixture forms a ball
11. Cook Playdough
1 cup flour
cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tarter
1 cup water
1 Tablespoon oil
Mix all ingredients, cook over low heat until mixture is lumpy. Turn dough out on wax paper to
knead and cool
12. Craft Clay
1 cup cornstarch
2 cups baking soda
1 cups water
Mix together and cook until think and dough like
13. Soapy Dough
2 cups flour
cup salt
1 Tablespoon liquid soap
Food coloring
Mix flour, salt, liquid soap together in a small bowl. Slowly add water until a workable dough is
formed.
14. Plastic Dough
cup white glue
cup flour
cup cornstarch
cup water
4-6 drops food coloring
Mix glue, water, and food coloring together in a small bowl until blended. Combine flour,
cornstarch in a separate bowl. Add the flour/cornstarch mixture to the water/glue mixture. Mix
until a stiff dough forms. Remove dough from bowl and knead on a floured surface for 2-3
minutes. Mold the plastic dough on a surface with waxed paper
15. Cotton Clay
3 cups cotton balls
2 cups water
2/3 cups flour
5-7 drops food coloring
Tear cotton balls apart into small pieces. Mix water and cotton together in medium saucepan.
Slowly stir in flour. Continue stirring and cook over low heat for 5-7 minutes until it begins to
stiffen. Remove from heat and place cotton clay on a thick cloth towel or several layers of paper
towels to cool. Allow sculptures to dry 24 hours or until hardened.
16. Sand Castle Clay
1 cup sand
cup cornstarch
cup liquid starch
Combine sand and cornstarch in an old pot. Add liquid starch and mix. Cook mixture over
medium heat while constantly stirring, it will thicken and turn in to a dough. Remove pot from
the stove and let clay cool. Remove clay from pot and knead it 20-30 seconds before using. Let
sculptures dry until hard.
17. Applesauce Cinnamon Dough
cup cinnamon
cup applesauce
1 plastic zip lock bag
Pour cinnamon and applesauce into bag. Seal bag and knead until mixture turns into a dough.
Allow creations to dry for 12 hours or until hard.
