In High School I was voted Most Likely to Save the World by my peers, ever since then I have been developing how I feel, and figuring out how I can actually contribute and develop my skills in a way that I can become an attribute to help change the world, or at least myself, in a positive way. I feel as though I personify the meaning of my name: defender of mankind. That theme has expressed itself in a variety of ways throughout my life, and are particularly present.
I have always had a deep passion for the environment. I grew up on Oahu, Hawaii and was exposed to the wonder, power and beauty of nature. I was, and still am astonished and captivated by nature. Since then I have lived in Aspen Colorado, Edina Minnesota and now live in Boulder Colorado.
I attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and my major is Environmental Design and Urban Planning. My degree is BEnvd; Bachelors in Environmental Design. I attended CU Boulder from August 2009 until when I graduated May 2013.
I try to conduct myself in a rational matter by forming beliefs in truth-conducive waysaccepting beliefs that are well-supported by evidence, avoiding logical fallacies, avoiding contradictions, and revising ones beliefs in the light of new evidence against them. I try to look at things holistically and I have an ENFJ Personality. I am intuitive, tenacious, passionate, a visionary, a leader and creative. When people ask me what I do my standard answer has become tell me what you need and I will find a way to get it done, or tell me what your problem is and we will find a way to solve it. I look at things holistically and I have a ENTJ Personality. I deal with things rationally and logically. I have a quickness to grasp complexity and to make decisive judgments. I constantly scan the environment for problems, which I can turn into solutions. I am future-oriented and a natural leader. I love working with people and forming partnerships. I am intuitive, tenacious, passionate, a visionary, leader and creative. I am also strategic, social impact driven, entrepreneurial, organized and detail-oriented.
In the last 70 to 80 years, the way we interact with the land and how we develop the places we work, live, generate energy, grow food, and produce products have dramatically shifted in a way that I feel disconnects us from nature, creates significant costs and challenges, and reduces our overall quality of life. The result is both a set of compounding social and environmental issues and an opportunity to create immense economic and social value if we take a different approach. That approach is Sustainable Development.
I am not just talking about green development, sustainable agriculture, or renewable energy. These and other good strategies are being done in many placesbut they are being done in
2 isolation. We are talking about sustainable and informed developmentunderstanding the land in any particular place with site relevancy and designing how we live, work, and produce the things people need to survive in ways that listen to and learn from that particular natural landscape. I believe that this approach can unlock the economic, social, and environmental opportunities of our time.

Natural resources are becoming economic drivers in ways that they have not been in the past. Yet the other side of this very real challenge is a huge opportunity for those who recognize it and meet the growing long-term demand for reliable and sustainable clean energy, food, water and development.
As a community member, I value nature and want to see abundant natural resources and beauty for future generations. I am concerned about the quality of life implications of biodiversity loss, climate destabilization, water pollution, and resource depletion that we see as consequences of our current industrial and development practices. I see the real impacts of these practices every day and in nearly every communityfrom the depletion of aquifers and contamination of freshwater resources, caused by industrial irrigation practices and antiquated storm/wastewater management, to the paving of agricultural soils, caused by economic and regulatory incentives that drive sprawling, low-density real estate development.
Sustainable development is made up of a deep, philosophical belief that healthy, productive, stable natural systems are at the core of most value creation on the planetthey are the foundation of food we eat, water we drink, energy that fuels our communities, and materials in every product we use.
Where and how we live matters and impacts the quality of our lives and our very health. Our current development patterns create communities that are disconnected from nature, reinforce a sedentary lifestyle, make good food expensive and unhealthy food cheap, and degrade the quality of the water we drink and the air we breathe. Conventional approaches to agriculture, energy, manufacturing, and other industries concentrate toxins and chemicals in our environment and raise additional concerns for our health. We are not only disconnected from nature, we are increasingly disconnected from each other with the distances between home and work, lack of walk-able communities and cities with a degraded sense of place all contributing to greater isolation and a loss of family and community time.
I have new ways of thinking about sustainability and environmentalism. These ideas encompass an approach to thinking about land and the activities on that land that can be practiced anywhere and at any scale for financial, environmental, and social gain.

We, right now, have the opportunity to shift the very mechanism that has caused severe environmental and economic equity damagehuman development patterns that ignore and extract from natureto the mechanism that restores environmental health and builds stronger communities. I see this not just being embraced by utopian idealists, but also by seasoned investors, large-scale developers, asset managers, and scientists who recognize the power of merging of an environmental imperative with a business opportunity. Learning from the land and environment, through the practices of Biophilia and Biomimicry approaches will aid in the success of this sustainable ideology. By observing the patterns and processes of nature, we can conclude to have many lessons to learn about the interaction between humans and the environment.
