Disclosure to Promote the Right To Information

Whereas the Parliament of India has set out to provide a practical regime of right to
information for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities,
in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority,
and whereas the attached publication of the Bureau of Indian Standards is of particular interest
to the public, particularly disadvantaged communities and those engaged in the pursuit of
education and knowledge, the attached public safety standard is made available to promote the
timely dissemination of this information in an accurate manner to the public.

SPECIFICATION FOR
GOOSE NECK CLAMPS
(Second Revision )
I. scope - Specifies the dimensions and material for goose neck clamps used in holding work pieces
n place when they are being machined.
!. Dimensions - Shall be as given in Table 1.
3. Designation -
A goose neck clamp having d=18 mm shall be designated as :
Goose Neck Clamp 18 IS : 4279
1. Material - Steel suitably hardened and tempered to a tensile strength of 750 to 850 N/mm*.
i. Finish -The goose neck clamps shall be free from cracks, burrs, pits and other defects. These
rhall also be free from sharp corners.
i. Preservation and Packing
i.1 A suitable anti-corrosive surface treatment shall be given to the goose neck clamps.
5.2 The goose neck clamps shall be packed in accordance with best trade practice.
r, Marking
1.1 The goose neck clamps shall be marked at an appropriate place with designation and manu-
facturers name or trade-mark.
1.2 IS1 Certification Marking - Details available with the Indian Standards Institution.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
This standard was first revised in 1975. The committee responsible for the formulation Of t hi s
standard decided to revise the same again based upon experience gained over SO maw Year s and
to keep it in line with other standards on clamps, which are also being revised in respect Of material,
roughness values, tolerance and rationalisation of sizes.
In the present revision, the figure under Table 1 has been modified to suit the current practice.
