Karat (rayon/polyester metallic) in #20 black (A) 5 (7) spools in #02 silver (B) One pair each sizes 5, 6, 7 and 8 (3.75, 4, 4.5 and 5mm) needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGES Circular needle size 7 (4.5mm) 32"/82cm length and 1 extra size 5 (3.75mm) straight needle Size D-3 (3.25mm) crochet hook Stitch holders, eight 1"/25mm buttons and cotton waste yarn

1) The shaping in this dress is made by changing the needle size, instead of using increases or decreases. 2) For a gauge swatch, use provisional caston and ch 45. With size 8 (5mm) needles, pick up 43 sts and work in chart pattern with a garter st selvage (knit the first and last st of every row) for 28 rows. Cont in chart pat, changing to the next size smaller needle every 28 rows until all needle sizes have been used.
GAUGES

41 sts = 7"/17.5cm and 28 rows = 4"/ 10.5cm using size 8 (5mm) needles. 41 sts = 6"/17cm and 28 rows = 4"/ 11cm using size 7 (4.5mm) needles. 41 sts = 6"/16cm and 28 rows = 4"/10cm using size 6 (4 mm) needles. 41 sts = 5"/15cm and 28 rows = 4"/10cm using size 5 (3.75 mm) needles. TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGES.
PROVISIONAL CAST-ON

crochet chain with 4 ch more than in the caston row. Leaving a 4 (5)yd/3.5 (4.5)m tail to use later for bind-off, beg with the second ch from the end of the chain, and pick up the number of sts to be cast on. When the knitting is finished, return to the beginning of the cast-on row. With the same needle used for picking up the sts, slowly remove the waste yarn, and pick up the sts one at a time. Bind off firmly.
FRONT

With crochet hook and cotton waste yarn, ch 127 (147). Using size 7 (4.5mm) needle, with A, pick up 123 (143) sts in the chain. Leave a 4 (5)yd/3.5 (4.5)m yarn tail long

Armhole shaping

Cont with size 5 (3.75mm) needles, bind off 4 (5) sts at beg of next 2 rows, 3 sts at beg of next 2 (4) rows, 2 sts at beg of next 6 rows, 1 st at beg of next 4 (6) rows93 (103) sts. Work even for 14 (18) rows.
Neck shaping

2nd ball of B and work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off from each neck edge 3 sts twice, 2 sts 3 (4) times, dec 1 st every other row 3 (2) times. Work even for 3 rows. Place rem 24 (27) sts each side on holders.
BACK

Work as for Front until 140 (148) rows have been worked in chart pat.
Divide for center back placket

work even on 62 (72) sts each side until same length as back to armhole. Shape armhole as for back47 (52) sts each side. Work even until same length as front to final bind-off, end with WS row. FINISHING

Remove waste yarn from cast-on row, and with size 7 (4.5mm) needles and A, bind off. Join shoulder sts using 3-needle bind-off. With crochet hook and A, work 1 row sc then 1 row of reverse sc (from left to right) evenly around neck edge. Sew side seams. With crochet hook and A, work 1 row sc then 1 row of reverse sc evenly around each armhole.
Back button band

With RS facing, crochet hook and A, beg at the top Back RH side, work as foll: Row 1 Work 49 sc from top of neck edging to base of the placket, 3 sc around base, work 49 sc to top of LH side of neck border. Ch 1, turn. Row 2 Work 1 sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 3 Make 8 button lps as foll: 1 sc in top sc, *ch 3, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc; rep from 6 times, end in st 43, skip 2 sc, work 1 sc in rem 4 sc to base of placket, 1 sc in 3 base sts, 1 sc in each of 49 sc to top of LH side.
