This document outlines an experiment to measure the mass, volume, diameter, length, and time duration of an object and determine the uncertainty of those measurements. Students will use a variety of tools including a meter tape, vernier caliper, graduated cylinder, beaker, thermometer, and stopwatch to make measurements. They will then calculate the mean, range, uncertainty, uncertainty in the mean, and measured value to analyze the accuracy and precision of the measurements. The apparatus needed for the experiment are listed.

Title: Measurement and Uncertainty Objective: To determine the
mass, volume, diameter, length and time duration of an object and its uncertainty.
Introduction: Physics is based on
measurements. We use a variety of tools to make precise measurements. Choosing an appropriate instrument to measure a physical quantity is important to ensure that the measurement is accurate and reproducible. The accuracy of a measurement depends on the accuracy of the measuring instrument , the ability of the observer to read the scale properly and the degree of precision of the measuring instrument. In this investigation you will practice the skill of making accurate measurements using a variety of measuring instruments. Then you will use the error propagation formulas to compute the uncertainty in quantities derived from the measurements.
