Students currently in Melissa Bruntlett Pippa Kouwenhoven grade 6 French Immersion and their District Parent parents are invited and Representative Jen Anderson encouraged to attend an important meeting to introduce the Quebec Exchange project we hope to offer the students in their grade 7 year. Goals of the project, costs, parents and student roles and responsibilities and expectations, dates, etc will be discussed. Families will be asked to indicate this year their intention to have their child participate so we may begin the extensive planning, organizing and fundraising process. The meeting is on Thursday, January 16, 7pm, basement lunchroom.
School of Groove
With our thanks to the PAC for their initiative and financial support, we have brought in School of Groove, a 3-week world music program that all our students are participating in. Led by Michelle Cormier, Robin Layne and their team, students are learning the roots and rhythms of the music of Cuba, Brazil and West Africa. They learn about other cultures, gain a basic understanding of musical principles and develop confidence through performing and collaborating with their peers. Some of the vocal and dance traditions from these regions are also being explored. Sharing Assembly: The students will share what they learned in two school assemblies on Friday, January 24 and parents and guests are invited. 9:15-10:30am: Divisions 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 24, 25 11:00am-12:10pm: Divisions 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 23, 26
Late French Immersion Grade 6: Current English program Grade 5 students interested in learning French the immersion way next year and their parents are invited to an information session at Secord School on Wednesday, January 15 at 7 pm. English Kindergarten: Parents who are interested in registering their child(ren) for English kindergarten or grade one at Secord next year are invited to a question/answer opportunity and school tour on Thursday, January 16 at 7 pm.
Staffing Update
In the December newsletter, we announced a staffing change for January. The New Year, however, brings even more: Our congratulations and very best wishes go to 2 staff members who will be leaving us very soon for maternity leaves: Teacher Jessica Rowe and Office Assistant Sandra Kovaltsenko. At this time, we do not know who will be replacing them in their roles. Teacher Barb McDougall leaves us for some time on a health leave. She wishes to extend

Flu Season
Tis (still) the season for giving Help prevent the spread of the flu. Join the school in encouraging your child to wash their hands with soap well (have them sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star while they wash) and often, especially before they eat. If your child is showing signs of the flu, please keep them at home and let the school know so we can track the number of cases. Currently, we have no large numbers of flu cases at school, but wed like to keep it that way.
