sexualities and generations all worshiping together as one. We truly do welcome and affirm Dear Church, In worship last Sunday I mentioned a conversation I had with other church leaders from around the Pacific Southwest Region, and their discouragement that churches are still so segregated by race. When I told those leaders about Bixby Knolls Christian Church, and how we despite our small size are a congregation of many different races and nationalities, their eyes lit up and hope spread across their faces. This experience helped me realize that we at BKCC have a special gift to share with the world, that we are people of many races and nationalities and all Gods children regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, ethnicity, marital status, physical or mental ability, political stance, or theological perspective, as our Open and Affirming statement proclaims. This is who we have been for many years. However, for many years, this light of hope is a light that has been kept under a basket. Now that we have made our Open and Affirming status official, it is time to let that light shine. I also mentioned on Sunday the upcoming regional MLK celebration

taking place this coming Sunday, January 12, in Garden Grove, and how this is an opportunity to let our light shine by having a large group from BKCC attend. You will find information about that event in the Regional Events section of this newsletter. I hope to see you there. Bixby Knolls Christian Church is a place where Gods Spirit is alive, building a community of the Spirit that transcends all human divisions. Its a great place to be! I am so thankful for the ministry we share. Blessings, Pastor Danny

Sharing Jesus
The true story is told of two men sitting together on a train. When one shared with the other, a committed Christian, that he was heading home to donate a kidney to his father, the Christian listened intently. Sensing his seatmates genuine interest, the speaker confided that he didnt know his lifes purpose. Sensing an openness in his new friend, the Christian told him about Jesus and the purpose Jesus had given to his life. The Christian man said later that hed never met someone so appreciative of hearing the Good News. A key Epiphany theme is sharing the news of Jesus. Ordinary Christians can do that best by listening for an opening when visiting with someone and sharing part of their faith story in relation to something the other has said. Theres no need to accost strangers on street corners. Just be yourself, let the Holy Spirit guide you and invite your listener to follow Jesus, too.
