ADMINISTRATOR. The QS duties can be categorised as TRADITIONAL & NON TRADITIONAL duties.
2.3.1 TRADITIONAL DUTIES Pre- contract stage This is the period during which the need for the project & the idea in term of size, function & appearance are formulated into plans that are capable of being used for the construction of a complete building. Although variations are expected even after the work has commenced on site, this should not provide an excuse for a delay in the design requirements. The QS plays a major role in this stage to plan , estimate, advise about the cost of the building & do the BOQ & tendering process.
Post- Contract Stage After selecting the most suitable contractor to do the work for client, the contract is signed between the client & contractor. The post contract stage comprises the construction process at the site. The consultant & contracting QS has to work jointly to make the project a success.
Consultant QS He is appointed in the design team to assist the client & other team members regarding cost aspects.
Contractor QS He is generally appointed in a construction organization & mainly provide services such as claims, cost controlling & construction management. There are QSs in the head office (Estimating & bidding) & site offices (sit organization activities, measurement, interim bill preparation).
