Newman English 101: Rhetoric 16 September 2013 Statement of Scope for the Annotated Bibliography

Many Americans are now taking what would be entry levels jobs for teens for minimum wage. The federal minimum wage as of 2009 is $7.25. Even though the federal minimum wage is so low, states set their own minimum wage separately such as Illinoiss is $8.25. Americans want a minimum wage increase but the senate voted against a pay raise. The minimum wage should not be increased because it is not meant to live off of; its meant to be for teenagers going into an entry level job. This essay will explore a stance on whether the minimum wage should be increased. Most Americans consider the living cost and inflation but what they dont consider is that the work isnt meant to pay very well. I will explain why the minimum wage should stay the where it is if not get lowered. Further I will explain why the minimum wage needs to be adjusted every so many years instead of whenever the government feels it needs to be edited. I will provide examples from newspapers and magazines that support that the minimum wage should remain where it is and not be raised. This selected bibliography includes articles about whether changing the minimum wage is a good or bad decision. I included articles about why the minimum wage should stay where its at but not any about why it would be good to raise it. The two anonymous articles talk about how the minimum wage is almost never increased. The McCrate article talks about how the minimum wage at entry level jobs isnt high enough to cover the living wage of Americans. The Florida newspaper writes about how there is no need to increase the minimum wage if there are people willing to work for less. The Smith article covers that even though the increased minimum wage might circulate billions of dollars into the economy, it might also destroy many jobs in the process.

Web. 13 Sept. 2013. This article talks about how states are raising their minimum wage in order for the low-wage employees to make a living off their full-time job. According to McCrate, this isn't possible. She says that the cost of living is too high to have a lowwage job to live off of. This is relevant because minmum wage keeps rising but it is getting too high. The jobs that pay minimum wage aren't meant to be lived off of. They're meant to be entry level jobs. There is no need to increase the minimum wage if people are willing to do the work in order to gain work experience. The wage of employees should be determined by the needs of the employees so a teenager living with their parents isn't making the same as a single mother. The government can raise

One arguement says that giving the people who will actually spend the money they earn from work (minimum wage workers) then the money will be circulated through the economy, nearly $5.5 billion. Others say that having a higher minimum wage means less hours and having to pay others more to keep balance.
