Responsible for employee safety in an environment containing thermal, chemical and radiological hazards in addition to the hazards (trip/fall, lock-out/tag-out, machine guarding, overhead crane, etc.) typically associated with manufacturing. Manufacturing Engineer Nuclear Energy, Wilmington, NC Qualified an internal lubricant for pressing UO2 fuel pellets. Increased productivity 25% via redesigned press feed shuttles and 8% via improved tooling. Created fuel factory computer simulation which resulted in the purchase of $1M furnace to eliminate a manufacturing bottleneck. Provided technical support for Spanish, Japanese, and Canadian licensees. Development Engineer Aircraft Engines, Madisonville, KY Designed both the pilot-scale production trials of experimental thermal barrier coatings on jet turbine blades and the subsequent tests of the coated blades produced. Toolroom Team Leader Aircraft Engines, Madisonville, KY Directed the work assignments of, and responsible for the workplace safety for, 17 union toolmakers in a facility that performed precision fabrication and repair of aerospace toolsets using a variety of mills, lathes, drill presses, and grinders.
