News From Ms. Tindalls Class

We have been reviewing what it means to be a good friend and in particular conflict resolution. We use three simple steps when youre feeling frustrated or angry. First you: Stop. Breathe. Think. Then: 1. Use calm words. (Talk it out, listen, be positive, try to understand the other persons perspective, say sorry, come up with multiple solutions and then choose one together that youre both happy with). 2. Move away. (If the problem cant be solved, take some time apart, cool down, try again later.) 3. Ask an adult for help. (If the person is still bothering you or the problem is unresolved after completing the first 2 steps or if there was any physical contact you must tell an adult.) It would be great if you could review again these steps with your child at home. As the year gets busier in and out of school, kids get a little tired and a little more stressed causing conflicts to happen more frequently. Its also useful to let children know about some of the conflicts you have as an adult and how you deal with them. Even the stories that didnt turn out so well and what you could have done differently make great learning anecdotes. Let children know that it is okay to make mistakes and that differences of opinions are normal. You cant change the behaviour of anybody else. You CAN change your own behaviour, reaction to others and choices you make. In partnership, Ms. Tindall
