At a glance
A massively scalable and open cloud Infrastructure-as-aservice (IaaS) platform Designed for both private and public cloud infrastructures Open, software-defined storage that delivers data to compute jobs inside a virtual machine with local disk access performance Unified enterprise storage that is resilient, highly available, and supports multiple file and object protocols Easy to deploy, manage, and massively scale storage (to petabyte level) in private or public cloud infrastructures Built to seamlessly and nondisruptively grow storage with Red Hat Storage Servers elastic scale-out architecture Improved performance due to no metadata server bottlenecks
The challenge
Data is growing at unprecedented rates. It needs to be efficiently stored and delivered to enterprise applications through multiple protocols while maintaining standard performance expectations. Meanwhile, IT budgets are shrinking because of public cloud infrastructures, which can reduce or eliminate an IT teams control within an enterprise. In addition, enterprise security requirements are still enforced despite the growing variety of client computing devices beyond the control of IT teams. This causes significant challenges for organizations and rising operating costs to support mixed ecosystems. Altogether, these issues can be addressed by an open hybrid cloud approach with the infrastructure to support it. But the right cloud infrastructure is essential to solving these challenges. It has to lower acquisition and operating costs by providing a flexible, open source alternative that supports enterprise open hybrid clouds. Thats OpenStack.
The solution
OpenStack is the largest and fastest-growing open source cloud infrastructure project. Built from community-driven innovation and supported by technology industry leaders, OpenStack provides a massively scalable framework for your organization to build an automated, private Infrastructureas-a-Service (IaaS) cloud based on standard x86 hardware. OpenStack lets your business deploy an on-premise cloud infrastructure, delivering similar functionality to an external cloud service provider but keeping you in control of your IT infrastructure. For successful OpenStack deployments, you should align yourself with an organization that has deep open source roots, a code leader that can support your IT team with proper architecture and implementation design, and one with engineering professional services. That organization must be capable of supporting unique OpenStack business demands, on your terms, while enabling your IT staff to focus on your core business. It should know OpenStack inside and out and have deep relationships with the community. Red Hat knows OpenStackwere a platinum member of the OpenStack Foundation, which maintains the OpenStack community and manages its developmentand were uniquely positioned to help you maximize the value of your OpenStack deployments. Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform delivers an integrated and optimized foundation for building OpenStack clouds. Combining the worlds leading enterprise Linux with the fastest-growing cloud infrastructure platform, this product is further integrated with Red Hat Storage Server, a software-defined, distributed storage platform. This unique combination gives you a Red Hat-supported, end-to-end compute and storage solution with the agility to scale and quickly meet customer demandsall without compromising on availability, security, or performance.

Key benefits
Integrated and optimized: OpenStack depends on Linux to provide the operating environment for OpenStack components, access to hardware, performance, scalability and security, and often as the operating system for the guest applications running in the environments. It also depends on unified access to data across multiple files and object protocols to provide its services and deliver its full potential, which is enabled by Red Hat Storage. Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform delivers an OpenStack distribution with the performance, security, and scalability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, letting you focus on delivering the services your customers want instead of on the underlying operating platform. Reliable and scalable: Red Hat Enterprise Linux provides a proven enterprise platform for running OpenStack on hardware of any size. In addition, Red Hat Storage Server provides a proven, unified storage platform that is massively scalable, highly available, and supports all OpenStack storage interfaces, including Cinder, Swift, and Glance. Enhanced performance, minimized complexities, and lower costs: Red Hat Storage Server runs on the same physical servers as Nova compute, providing exceptional performance associated with local disk access without network latency. The storage is resilient and highly available and it can be accessed through multiple enterprise file and object protocols. This results in lower operating costs, less hardware to manage, and the simplified deployment and management of open, softwaredefined storage.
