Spending hundreds of dollars on textbooks? Make these fast and easy fabric book covers to keep them clean and scratch free. They are also great for vintage novels and cookbooks! Minimal sewing experience is needed.

http://www.pellonprojects.com Step 1. Open the textbook to approximately the middle page so the cover is lying at. Measure the textbook covers full width and height.

Step 2. Cut one rectangle of Peltex I that is the textbooks width plus 1/4 by the textbooks height plus 1/4.

Step 3. Cut one rectangle of fabric that is the textbooks width plus 10 by the textbooks height plus 6. Press the fabric. Step 4. Center the Peltex I rectangle on the fabric rectangle with the fusible side of the Peltex I facing the wrong side of the fabric. Fuse together following manufacturers instructions.

Step 5. With the fabric right side down, fold the top and bottom edges of the fabric up over the Peltex I. Press the fold of the fabric taking care not to directly press on the Peltex I.

http://www.pellonprojects.com Step 6. Fold the left and right edges of the fabric in over the Peltex I and press in the same manner as in Step 5.

Step 7. Edge stitch (less than 1/8) along the top edge of the folded book cover making sure to catch both sets of folds at the corners. Backstitch at the edges of the left and right fabric folds for reinforcement. Repeat along the bottom edge.

Step 8. Measure to nd the middle of the book cover and mark a line on the Peltex I in that spot with ball point pen. Place the textbooks spine on the mark. Using the textbook as a guide, use your ball point pen to mark either side of the books spine only on the Peltex I.

http://www.pellonprojects.com Step 9. Stitch along the two lines marking the sides of the textbooks spine from the top of the fabric book cover to the bottom edge of the fabric. Take care to not fold the Peltex I while machine stitching.

Step 10. Using a ruler as a guide, fold the book cover towards the inside of the cover. While the book cover is folded, use the ball point pen to press. Rub hard along the fold. Repeat with the other line of stitching along the books spine.

Step 11. Slip the textbooks front and back covers into the pockets created by the folds of fabric.
