On May 14, 2009, HOPE Charter
School held a Poetry Slam. In re-
cent weeks Approximately ___ stu-
dents attended a poetry workshop
organized by Mr. Syeed King. Stu-
dents were joined by professionals
and several percussion performers
and performed original works at the
Poetry Slam. Ms. Lisa Mullen and Ms.
Toi Brown also performed original
works. It was great to see the stu-
dents and staff display their talents!
HOPE CHARTER SCHOOL

Prom 2009
Prom 2009 was held Friday, May 15th
at Temple University’s Diamond Club.
Approximately 155 students and 25
staff members attended. The theme of
this year’s prom was “To Paris with
Love” and students received memen-
tos of the night including a silver
frame to display their picture remind-
ing them of this special night. Every-
one looked fabulous and students
had a great time dancing the night
away. Congratulations to Prom Prin-
cess Teresa Hanton, Prom Prince
Shannon Raven, Prom Queen
Eshanna Alexander and Prom King
Carlos Noel.

I Don’t Skip
HOPE Charter School students Tiffany Scott and David To‐
liver were recognized by the Northwest Community Coali‐
tion for Youth (NCCY) for their near perfect attendance.  
Several students from northwest area schools were invited 
to participate in a “Truancy Prevention” poster project that 
will be featured throughout the city. The theme of the 
poster is “I Don’t Skip” “Going to School Made  Me a Win‐
ner.”  All students had the opportunity to meet and great 
Bill Cosby as he served as the celebrity guest on the poster.

Locker Painting
