Crompton Greaves is an Indian corporate with a rich multi cultural lineage. Today, after 75 years in India, this engineering giant is a powerhouse, manufacturing fans, lighting equipment, motors and more. The lighting division is a C650 crore entity nearly C2 crore every single working day with state-of-the-art facilities and a research and development wing that would be the envy of the industry. The Crompton Greaves lighting division is on the threshold of launching an array of products that are designed to increase luminosity and reduce power consumption apart from living up to the commitment of being a Green entity.
plant to make glass tubes. Apart from being an ISO 9001:1991 certified unit, the Baroda plant is also ISO 14001 (EMS) and OHSAS 18001 compliant and carries the assurances of the Bureau of Industrial Standards (BIS) and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). Market
Evolution isn't a phenomenon restricted to the human species. In every sphere of human endeavour the next round of development is actually another step in evolution. The lighting industry, too, is no exception. It is evolving in sync with changing times and evolving consumer wants and needs. The fly in the ointment in India, however, is power shortage. Humongous effort is, therefore, being made by every industry whose products consume power to reduce its consumption. In fact, encouraging power conservation is one of the priorities of the government. It has set the ball rolling by setting up an energy efficiency bureau, tasked with labelling every power-consuming device with star ratings so consumers can distinguish between power guzzlers and power conservers. The lighting industry, whose products consume a fifth of all power generated in the country, is alive to the needs of the hour and is expending vast resources on research and development. The compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), finding increasing favour in homes, is a product out of this effort as is the light emitting diode (LED), now in the catalogue books of every major lighting manufacturer. The story of Crompton Greaves, a key player in the Indian lighting industry is, in some sense, the story of the maturing of the lighting industry itself, estimated to be annually billing some C7840 crore (US$ 1.40 billion). Lighting is broadly divided into three segments light sources, luminaires commonly called lighting fixtures and lighting accessories and components. The first two segments constitute about 45% each of the business and accessories and components the other 10%.

Crompton Greaves is not just a manufacturer of lighting products; the company calls itself a complete solutions provider. Its R&D wing is continuously working on technology up gradation and the development of a new breed of products that would be highly energy efficient, functionally superior as well as aesthetically appealing. For instance, the company has indigenously developed nano coating technology that has made it possible to offer 10% higher efficiency over conventional products. In addition, the company has produced special lighting fixtures for retail outlets, modern offices and for landscapes. These luminaires are designed to enhance lighting levels and improve the ambience. Crompton Greaves has recently launched Controlite an automation device which can create various lighting options, thus offering a variety of moods and effects in commercial applications, especially conference rooms, boardrooms etc. In the area of outdoor lighting, Crompton Greaves has introduced an award-winning streetlight automation solution that reduces power consumption by as much as 30%.

Recent Developments
Crompton Greaves is steeped in research and development. Its engineers are constantly working on lighting models and theories that will result in conserving energy and increasing light output, without correspondingly increasing power consumption. One of its most recent developments is a power-saving device for use in street lighting. When placed within the circuit, it saves power by reducing light output during off-peak hours and allowing full load during rush hour. A preprogrammed timer controls the entire system. On another front, and in view of the mounting concern over carbon emissions and global warming, the company is emphasising on solid-state lighting. Crompton Greaves has now on offer a wide range of LED lighting options. The LED offers several benefits including energy saving, a life of over 50,000 burning hours and the complete elimination of mercury. It is expected that this technology will drive the future of lighting. A completely new LED luminaire range has been introduced in the Indian market, both for indoor and outdoor applications. More than 16,000 LED street lighting points have been created by Crompton Greaves in 2011. A range of LED bulbs for household applications are now also available and are designed to be a direct replacement for the incandescent ones. To further its expertise in the area of power application, Crompton Greaves has cast its eye on security. This is a concern that cuts across every strata of society. The integrated security systems and home automation wing of Crompton Greaves offers a complete basket of monitoring and surveillance equipment, digital video capture, real-time viewing, remote multi-apartment video door phones for residential purposes. The Scame Group of Italy adds value to offerings made by Crompton Greaves lighting. Scame is a major international player in components and systems for electrical installations, wiring and installation accessories. The Crompton Greaves-Scame co-operation has brought to India a wide range of internationally accepted electrical installations, components and systems, suitable for both industrial and non-industrial applications.
