Wiring Compatibility
INTRODUCTION This wiring guide contains information concerning circuits that leave the FireFinder XLS system enclosure. Table 6 contains specific ratings for each circuit and other data that is useful when planning field wiring. The Wiring Compatibility Matrix covers the requirements when multiple circuits share the same conduit or raceway. In all cases the wiring must comply with all local and national codes. Table 1 shows the allowable resistance to ensure no more than a 1.5dB loss in the wire for speaker circuits. While a 1.5dB loss does not represent a significant loss in sound pressure level, it cannot be used to guarantee acceptable sound pressure in all cases. Table 2 lists the typical resistance for copper wire at 75 degrees Celsius per NFPA 70 Table 8. The stated values are for a single conductor. If a more precise value is desired, contact the manufacturer of your cable and obtain the value for the specific cable being used.
Use of existing wire is allowed (provided it complies with the requirements of this guide) - pending approval of local AHJ. The use of multiple circuits, even of the same type, within the same jacketed cable is not allowed. When existing wire is to be used, it is recommended to conduct a wiring survey to determine the quality of the existing wire - prior to committing to use the wire.
TABLE 1: MAXIMUM SPEAKER ZONE WIRE RESISTANCE FOR -1.5dB LOSS 10W 25V 70.7V 12 94 20W 5.9 47 30W 3.9 32 40W 2.9 23 50W 2.4 19 75W 1.6 13 96W 1.2 9.8 125W 0.9 7.5 150W 0.8 6.3 180W 0.7 5.2
NOTES: 1. All resistances include both wires for Class B or all four wires for Class A. 2. For Bulk amplified zones, subtract the riser resistance from the value in the table. Multiply the remainder by the number of connected zones. This is the maximum resistance for each connected zone. This calculation assumes that each zone supports the same wattage.

Tables 3 through 5 are to be used when designing speaker and NAC circuits with the HCP . When designing speaker circuits use Table 1 to calculate maximum riser loss and Table 4 or 5 to calculate speaker zone loss.
