LESSON PLANS - CUBISM
1. Subject Area: Introduction to Art/Painting 2. Grade Level: 10-12 grades 3. State Curriculum Standards for all lessons: The objectives of this course match the Nevada State Board of Education (NSBE) teaching standards. The following is the link to this information: http://www.doe.nv.gov/Fine_Arts_Standards/ Analyze the effectiveness of and relationships among visual characteristics, purposes, and/or functions in works of art. (2.12.3) Explain the origins of specific subject matter, symbols, and ideas. (3.8.1) Associate a variety of artworks with cultures, times, and places. (3.12.2) Evaluate artwork based on various characteristics such as themes, styles, purposes, and subject matter. (4.5.2) Plan and produce a work of art that displays the ability to choose subject matter, symbols, and ideas to communicate intended meaning. (5.12.1) 4. Delivery Mode: The course will be taught completely online and will use a course management system such as Blackboard or Web CT. 5. Lesson Plan 1: The History of Cubism

Description of Lesson 1: In this lesson, students are introduced to the basic history of the artistic movement of Cubism that focuses on the years 1907-1920. After the student reads the available content (i.e. map, timeline, quick facts, and article) they will then take an 8-question objective test. Time Allotted: 90 minutes. This is an online course so students have a week to learn the material and then complete the assessment. Learning Objective Student will learn a brief the history of Cubism.

LESSON PLANS
Timeline of artistic movements from 1870-1975. Online article about the history.
Activities a. The students will read all of the content provided on the site. b. The students will take a quiz upon the completion of reading assignment. Adaptations for special learners: Appropriate accommodations will be made for students who require special assistance in regards to accessing the material. Supplemental Activities: Extension: The participants can write a 350-word essay on any of the subject matter for three extra credit points. Remediation: The students who require more instruction will be provided with facilitator attention and additional sources. Assessment Quiz 8-question objective test Multiple-choice, Yes/No, and True/False.
Lesson Plan 2: The Artists of Cubism

Description of Lesson 2: In this lesson, students are exposed to eight of the main artists of this movement and many examples of their paintings. Further, students are expected to visit all of the websites and view them in depth. Time Allotted: 6 hours. Online course and student has a week to learn the material. Learning Objectives Students will learn about eight artists of the movement. Students will be able to match a painting with the artist that created it.

Activities The students will read all of the content that is provided. The students will take a quiz upon completion.
Adaptations for special learners: Appropriate accommodations will be made for students who require special assistance in regards to accessing the material.

Supplemental Activities: Extension: The students will have an opportunity to turn in a 150word essay for one extra credit point. Remediation: The learners who require more instruction will be provided with individualized attention and additional sources of learning. Assessment Quiz Students will take an 8-question quiz - Multiple-choice, Yes/No, and Matching the Artist to their painting.
Lesson Plan 3: Painting Exercise

Description of Lesson 3: This lesson is designed to let students practice working with oil paint, canvas, and brushes to create their own painting. Since the course is online, the student will mail their final product to the instructor upon completion. Time Allotted: 3 weeks Learning Objectives Students will learn the materials and supplies required for oil painting. Students will learn how to create a painting in the Cubist style. Students will generate an original work of art.
Resources Video. Art supplies. Instructions for how to paint in the style 5-steps.
Activities The learners will secure the art supplies from the teacher. The learners will read the painting instructions. The learners will watch the instructional video. The learners will create a painting (final product).
Adaptations for special learners: For students who cannot complete this task two alternative methods are available. 1. Submit a sketch drawing (pencil or charcoal on paper or canvas). 2. Submit a 500-word essay on any of the information presented in the course.

Remediation: Students who require more instruction will be provided with additional sources of learning. Assessment The final product will be assessed using the following art activity grading rubric.
