Job Title: Mold Technician
Location: Strasburg, VA. 22657
Start Date: 9/14/98
End Date: 12/17/08
Job Description/Duties:

Lear I.A.C produces and assembles plastic injected automotive interior components.

My job is to set up and process the different polymers injected into molds mounted in plastic injection
presses. I..A.C. uses many different sizes and makes of presses. They range from 300 to 3,000 tons clamp.
All are equipped with automated material feed systems, robotic extraction devices, RJG (cavity pressure
control) systems, and state of the art machine control screens. Other apparatus including mechanical valve
gate machines, DMEs (mold heaters), and thermolators (cooling systems) are used depending on the mold's
requirements. My duties are very extensive. I must follow the raw materials from start to finish. I must be
sure of the proper preparation and mixture of the materials in accordance to the BOM's. I must be
knowledgeable of the melt index, viscosity, and cooling properties of the different polymers being used.
Using this information, the mold's support apparatus, and knowing the press capabilities I process the
polymers into quality parts in a predetermined cycle time. Upon mold changes I must verify proper
installation which includes: correct mold plumbing, mold heater settings, core functions, ejection stroke,
and all press settings. I am responsible for robot and program changeover, line change, including auxiliary
equipment, and all documentation required to comply with QS9001, TS16949, and IS014001. I work
closely with quality assurance to insure that the parts being made are of the highest quality and are within
dimension specifications. I am responsible for diagnosing and in most cases repairing problems in the
presses, molds, mold apparatus, secondary equipment, and robots. I have completed and passed Paulson
Training twice, once in 1985 and again in 1999,Hazmat Training, Lockout Tagout, Confined Area, Forklift,
and Quality Control Color Tests.

Company name: Automotive Industry Inc

Job Title/Positions: Lead Mold Technician/Heat Seal Technician
Location: Strasburg, VA 22657
Start Date: 3/1984
End Date: 3/1988
Job Description/Duties:

Automotive Industriy Inc. now known as Lear/I.A.C. was and still is a manufacturer of automotive interior
components.

As a lead mold technician I was knowledgeable of all A.I.I.'s molding presses, molds, secondary
equipment, materials, & process setups (before required documentation). I pulled & set molds on the off
shifts. I worked with the mold maker's tool & die service reps to repair or alter new molds for production.
I played a big part in setting and processing new ungrained molds being prepared for new production runs.
I trained several mold techs. in different areas. I contributed several volumes of setups with explanations
on the reasons and corrections made to processes. I also completed the first Paulson Training program ever
offered. I was asked to start a second shift crew in a relatively new venture called Heat Seal. This was sun
visors made of vinyl’s or clothes welded together using machines that did so using radio frequency waves.
I later accepted a Heat Seal Technician position when the company acquired a large contract from Ford for
the F-150 & T-Bird sun visors. The company expanded this division purchasing new state of the art
equipment and moved into the newly built addition connected to plant 2. As a tech I was responsible for
setups, changeovers, repairs, preventive maintenance, quality,& quantity of some 50 pieces of equipment.

Company name: A.S.R. Hospital Supply

Job Title/Position: Setup Man
Location: Shippenville, PA
Start Date: 6/1973
End Date: 6/1975
Job Description/Duties:
The division of ASR that I worked was the plastic injection, extrusion, & vacuum forming plant. They had
7 presses, ranging from 100 to 700 tons clamp, an extruder, and a vacuum forming machine.
My duties as a setup man were very extensive. We were responsible for process control on the presses,
extruder, & the vacuum former. On shut down for the weekends I had to pull the die off & the screw out of
the extruder clean them and reset them. Help with the mold changes, clean the plant, and setup the presses
with materials for startup on Monday morning. Process adjustments to these machines were all done
mechanically. This became very beneficial in the future to know all the workings of an injection molding
press. Terminology was so different back then but the end result [good parts] thru process control remains
the same, even today.

Notable Accomplishments:
My wife and I have been married for 27 years. We raised three wonderful children.
When they were growing up my wife and I were both working many hours a week, but we still took the
time to be a family. All our children were involved in sports, FFA, the National Honor Society, and many
other school activities. Even with all the hours that we worked we still attended all their functions. All
three graduated high school academic honor students and received many awards. They all went off to
college (Virginia Tech) upon graduation. We had all three of them at Tech at the same time. Now the
oldest Amos, an architect, owns his own firm. Jacob the second born works for Dupont. Brandi the
youngest and an agricultural engineer works for Norfolk Southern Railroad. We are very proud of them
and to us this is a great accomplishment. I have other accomplishments that went unnoticed, but that was a
good thing. I invented, fabricated, and put into production different pieces of equipment in the Heat Seal
department at A.I.I. Some of these inventions I know saved someone’s fingers or hands from being
crushed. I guess sometimes accomplishments are better off not being noticed. Oh Yeah, at age 11 I saved a
drowning neighbor. Steve Daughtery was his name. I wonder if he still remembers?
