By T. Jordan Peacock For naval battles in the Pirates RPG, of course theres nothing more appropriate than the PocketModel ships put out by WizKids (www.wizkidsgames.com) for Pirates of the Spanish Main. Still, in the Pirates RPG, players are likely to start off with a lowly one-mast sloop such as the Lady Faire from the pre-generated Pirates RPG characters on the Pinnacle site (www.peginc.com). The Lady Faire isnt actually represented in Pirates of the Spanish Main, and sloops are hard to come by. Therefore, I came up with a few paper models of sloops to use for my own games. A couple of the designs are inspired by toy ships put out by Mega Brands in their Mega Bloks (www.megabloks.com) Pyrates line. Captain Cutlasss Stormstalker (3620) and Admiral Scathes Predator (3619) work well (with a little modification) to represent sloops for the Pirates RPG at 25-28mm scale for swashbuckling battles once boarding commences. Hence, the Stormstalker and
Pirates RPG and the Lady Faire are properties of Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Pirates of the Spanish Main and PocketModels are properties of WizKids Games. Mega Bloks, Pyrates, Captain Cutlasss Stormstalker, and Admiral Scathes Predator are all properties of Mega Brands. No challenge to trademark or copyright status is intended. Illustrations by T. Predator were designed with those ships in mind, in case you have those in your fleet. To use, just print out the second page (with the ship models on it) onto light cardstock, cut out individual models, and fold each one into an inverted T arrangement. The nameplate for the ship will end up on the bottom. Optionally, you might want to slip a penny or small washer into the base to give it just a little weight so it doesnt get knocked over so easily.
