SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
PURPOSE:
The Barrow Lions Club has proudly served this community since 1966. We are dedicated to helping those in need and are committed to investing in our local youths education. In an effort to support the higher education of our youth, we will be offering scholarship money to THREE students. This is a $1,000 scholarship renewable for a second year. We believe that with focused academic experiences, todays Barrow youth will become tomorrows professionals and leaders.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Applicants must be a student of the NSB School District or Ilisagvik College. Must be a Resident of Barrow. 2. Applicants must be eligible to attend any 2-year, 4-year, or vocational institution of higher education as a full time student. 3. Applicants must have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of filing. Submit official high school and college transcripts 4. An essay entitled With limited funds for non-profit agencies, what services do you think are essentials to our community? This essay must contain not less than 350 words but no more than 500 words. 5. Need two written recommendations from a teacher or organizational leader. 6. All applications with applicable supporting documents must be received by the Barrow High School Counselors Office (Mr. Douglas Dye) by Friday, March 29, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. 7. Eligible applicants must be able to attend an interview conducted by the Barrow Lions Club. This interview will factor in the selection process. 8. Scholarship winners must attend one of the June or July meetings of the Barrow Lions Club to introduce themselves. Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Hopson Middle School Library. FIRST YEAR SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: The award of $1,000 will be given to the school or university on the students behalf. SECOND YEAR SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: To receive the second year check on the following school year, the student must send the following to the Barrow Lions Club: 1. A college unofficial transcript (MUST maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5).

2. Upcoming class schedules (MUST be a full-time student no less than 12 credit hours per semester). 3. A short essay (250 to 400 words) entitled What College Has Done for Me. Students must submit the three requirements above as soon as they are available. Selection will be based on the students academic record, essay and interview. 2. No special consideration will be given to Lions Club members or dependents of Lions Club members. 3. Gender, race, or religion will not be considered in the selection process. 4. The faculty or administration of Barrow High School or other appropriate local educational institutions of learning may be used to help in the selection process as well as a committee of Barrow Lions Club members.
