Strategic Goals with Specific Objectives to Achieve by 2014 GOAL 1: We will enhance the quality of our graduates.

One of our primary products is the graduates we produce. Our goal is to provide educational opportunities that adequately prepare our graduates for professional practice. To achieve this goal, we will:

Increase participation in, and passing rates from, the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam by current students and recent graduates. Continue to evolve our programs so that they are optimally designed to prepare our students for professional practice, including:
o

Implement a common introductory course sequence for engineering and computer science majors that provides a well-rounded introduction to the profession, and accelerates their readiness for courses within their specific major. Develop a broader, more flexible undergraduate level curriculum that prepares students for practice-based professional post-baccalaureate study, and nurtures leadership, life-long learning, and the broad skill set including communications, ethics, technology management, creativity, innovation, and design - needed for professional practice.

Infuse entrepreneurship skills as required learning outcomes at all levels of the curriculum, and enhance opportunities for technology transfer and commercialization of senior design projects and thesis and dissertation research

GOAL 2: We will help students, faculty, and staff reach their educational and professional goals through experiences beyond the classroom. We believe that a significant portion of educational opportunities afforded to students at AEC can be found in experiences that occur beyond the four walls of a classroom, that

wise and empathetic advising is critical to student success, and that interaction with a knowledgeable and experienced faculty and staff is necessary for both.

To achieve this goal, we will:

Increase participation of students in pre-professional experiences, including cooperative education and internships, academic research, national professional organizations, national engineering and design competitions, and service-learning projects.

Provide effective curricular, professional, and university life advising to all students through a combination of peers, professional advisors, and faculty. Increase participation of faculty, staff, and graduate students in professional development activities to increase their research and entrepreneurship skills.

GOAL 3: We will improve the quality of the workplace for all stakeholders by recognizing and developing competencies. The primary asset of the College is the quality of its faculty, staff, and students. We are committed to creating an environment where our faculty, staff, and students can work most effectively, and where innovation and collegiality are the cultural norms. To achieve this goal, we will:

Increase the diversity of our faculty by increasing the percentage of Hispanic and female faculty members. Maintain shared governance and lines of communication through active and engaged constituency groups: Student Leadership Council, Faculty Council, Engineering Alumni Chapter Board, and College of Engineering Advisory Board.

Implement a variety of faculty, staff, and student awards to recognize achievement and commitment to the College's mission and culture.

GOAL 4: We will attract talent, funding, advocacy and resources to maximize opportunities for all COE stakeholders. In order to invest in these five strategic fields of study, we must first continue to attract the human and financial capital needed to drive these programs forward. As the primary objective of the College aligns with the University's goal of achieving Tier One status, our human and financial goals need to be focused on those assets that will most directly assist in achieving that objective. To achieve this goal, we will:

Recruit and retain high quality faculty that have proven success and/or considerable potential for developing high level, high impact research programs supported by external funds, and the ability to lead team research efforts.

Recruit and graduate an increasing number of high quality doctoral students that have the ability to direct research and product development programs in industry and academia.

Secure annual increases in external funding support of our research and education programs through sponsored grants and contracts as well as annual gifts and endowments.

Enabling Goals In order to achieve its mission and bring its vision to life, the College of Engineering has established the following goals: To be considered one of the top engineering colleges in undergraduate and graduate studies;

To be recognized as the premier research university in advanced materials, information sciences, and nanoscience, and a leader in bioengineering, complex systems, and energy and the environment;

To recruit, retain, and enable a diverse community of exceptional faculty, students, and staff; To educate future leaders who are the most sought-after engineering graduates in the world; and To establish and maintain facilities and infrastructure that are second to none in supporting the achievement of the colleges vision, mission, and values.

Our goals are results-oriented. As a community of scholars, we will: Encourage young people to consider careers in engineering and computer science by introducing them to these fields while in middle and high school. Prepare our graduates in ways that provide them a basis for lifelong personal and professional development and that enable them to exercise leadership and make lasting contributions in their disciplines. Continue on new roads of research and discovery in our existing areas of expertise, in emerging disciplines, and in related interdisciplinary areas. Provide the educational resources that working professionals need to keep pace with developments in their field. Magnify our positive impact in serving regional, State, national, and global needs by building mutually beneficial linkages with business, industry, community colleges, K-12 programs and schools, and other constituencies.

OUR FUTURE PLANS To initiate new Techniques in developing the students to face modern methods of Personality Tests and Interviews.

To further upgrade the Quality of Guest lecturers on current Topics and Emerging Trends, so as to prepare our Students as Entrepreneurs and Professionals for the Global Market.
